Lily and the Octopus by Steven Rowley

One of the better books I’ve read in a while! If you’ve ever had a pet that you’ve loved so much that it was like a member of your family, you will get this book. It does get a little fever dream-ish at one point (which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5) but the big ugly cry you have at the end makes up for that part.

This was a cute book. Good insight on living in NYC at the end of WW2.
The Story of Beautiful Girl by Rachel Simon

This was a lovely book! I thought the plot was engaging and kept me wondering if the characters would find their way back to each other at the end of the book. Rachel Simon did a wonderful job of telling the story from the points of view (point of views??) of 4 characters and you were able to see how their lives did or did not interweave throughout the book.
One cannot forget about the treatment of Lynnie and Homan, the 2 central characters, both of whom have special needs. Without giving too much away, it shows how they were treated as they made their way through life. Oftentimes as I was reading this book, I would get upset that people were treated this way and it was ok for the times.
What made this book so lovely despite the darkness of Lynnie and Homan's lives, was the end of the book. I had a smile on my face for the last 20 pages and felt that the book ended the way it was supposed to end. Sometimes, I don't like when books end that way but this one had an ending that was just right.

Somebody I Used to Know by David Bell

The book started out with a lot of intensity and plot twist but was predictable. I enjoyed Nick, the main character, and his sense of humor despite the drama he dealt with.
I read this book while flying and this would make a great beach read as well.
