Book Lovers by Emily Henry

The sex scenes were bad, the dialogue got weird and out of character during them. I loved everything that wasn't in a sex scene, even the romance. They need to kill the side characters I found annoying. Nora is a wonderfully written character and I enjoyed her moments of introspection.

I'm not sure how to describe the experience. I gave it 5 is what I'll say, go read it.

I think parts of it are really beautiful and deeply emotional writing. The other parts (food descriptions) I just could not care about.
I think it's a book that you'd get if you got and won't if you didn't.
It wasn't bad, but I probably won't read it again.

Even though it wasn't bad I can't shake the feeling that I should feel more about this book, but it was good.
I didn't really get it at first and I was ready to write it off as nihilist nothing but the ending wrapped it up and I get it's not about how nothing matters but about how our present lives matter. I liked that, it really turned me around on how I felt about the MC and his relationships. I also get why this is one of the existentialist works (even if Camus didn't agree). The book could've used a better representation of women, though.
The narrator was really good, especially during the final chapter.
tl;dr: Good book with an interesting message.

Great story. I think listening to it added a lot that I would have missed just reading, specifically emotionally. Did not feel like a slog at any point of the experience.

Objectively, this was the worst book I’ve read all year. Derivative, reductive, bland, predictable; if I didn’t have this for a book club, I probably wouldn’t have ever finished let alone pick this up.
I give it two stars and not one because some of the twists and certain scenes, especially towards the end, were so funny (in a so bad it’s good) I genuinely had to laugh.

Emma by Jane Austen

Around halfway into this I was sure I would rate this lower because nothing happens at all throughout the book, but by now I realize I would be criticizing flowers for being still. Once I got past the hurdle of needing a "real" plot, I started enjoying the actual substance of it.
It's fun to read a "day-in-the-life" type book. Reading people go about their daily lives is as enjoyable as I let it be for this book, and the characters made their impressions on me enough that I could get invested in the events of their lives. I think the strength of the book is how relatable it remains after all this time. I could transpose this to some 20 year old in my life now, and it would feel about the same.
Personally, I loved Emma being wrong about everything in this entire book until the very end.

Deeply haunting and emotionally heartbreaking. It's a tragedy and you know it from the prologue, but I still see critiques for the ending anyway. The stories were interesting, the characters were engaging, and you feel connected to them the more you see their connections to each other. Great read.

Just as funny on a reread.
I highly recommend this as an entertainment focused read, I was laughing along to almost the whole book. The villain of the book was the best part, and the funniest villain I've ever read. The twist actually did get me, sort of, on the first read; it was still enjoyable knowing it on the second.
The only thing I didn't like is the cliche, millennial dialogue (he's right behind me...) and how the main character talks to herself through the dog. I swear, she keeps calling herself Mom (You can do it Mom! Thanks Mom!) so much I wanted that dog dead.
All in all really enjoyable, would read again a third time.
