I’ve read my fair share of smutty fiction but this one, oh my lord, could not tell if it was a parody. How!? Why?! She gets locked in a room ??? For four days?! Without food or water, then escapes and thinks ‘you know what, I’m gonna look for a job’

what

ends up in a prostitution ring!!!!!!!!!!! but jack saves the day!!!! and doesn’t think ‘u kno what she’s probably suffering from STARVATION AND DEHYDRATION’ no, he takes her to a cabin!! Where they make love and play in the lake

😑

Nothing happened. Legit nothing happened I got to about 260 pages in, nothing happened and the little things that did happen were glossed over in under like three sentences, e.g. death, war, you know - exciting stuff compared to what Hortense had for breakfast.

Then nothing happened in the last 100 pages either, more happened in the afterword! Hortense had no personality whatsoever and acted like a five year old - and not even an interesting one at that - her mother was also irritating and nothing made sense! Two stars instead of one because of Caroline and the little American girl.

The tag line of this book was: ‘for the stepdaughter of napoleon, nothing is simple - especially love’

Legit like, didn’t even apply. I just wanted this book to end dear god!

2.5*. Beautiful beautiful art work but the story was lacking. Most of the time I was confused! Feel like I’m being harsh, hopefully the second one can make up for it though.
