Beautifully cinematic in its telling. Heartbreaking in a visceral way. If you have a sensitive stomach to trauma or abuse, this one is not for you. I found myself putting it down several times because the story was so tough to swallow. It got darker and darker till the very end, and I think this one will definitely stick with me for a long while.
Easy to digest (no pun intended) material. I enjoyed the photos for identification and info on preserving and uses. Great book.
I will definitely be re-reading this over and over and suggesting it to anyone who wants to join me on my journey of just raw-dogging life. Even after 1 year of not drinking it's still so surprising the reaction I get from other people. This book helps me to stand firm in my decision to avoid the most socially accepted drug without some pushy 12 step tropes.
I wanted to like this. It had such hype. But just as other CH novels it kind of fell flat for me. The character development wasn't very good. Several aspects of the book felt rushed. Like the ending with Verity. It tried too hard to be sexy and smutty and just wasn't. Not a fan. It was luckily a quick read because there wasn't much to it.
Very well written. Has lots of science backing it... but that being said it's nearly 17 hrs of being told not to eat meat. We get it. Wrap it up.
I haven't read the book since high school. I thought it might be a fun listen as an audiobook on a recent car ride. And Michael Crichton does not disappoint. This book although aged feels like it was just written recently. It's very wall researched and thrillingly paced. It's hard not to finish it in one sitting. Lovely. 10/10 would definitely read again.
The writing was pretty good, but I just could not get into the storyline of this book. Not a prude but the hoe sh*t is not that entertaining to me. I think the author writes spicy scenes well, that's not the problem. But the way the characters treat each other and the way Feyi treats others is just kind of gross. Like a storyline of a main character who has trauma so she messes with a dude, moves onto dude's friend and then moves on from there to the friend's dad.... it's weird. And the main character and the dad end up together why... bc their partner's both died? Is that the only reason they're passionate about each other? There's not enough substance to the build up of a story like that other than they are lusting after each other. but I can't wrap my brain around why. I dunno. I had high hopes for this one and was severely let down.
