I would say I struggled through this. I was excited over the premise of collections of nature-in-winter pieces, and some of it struck me deeply like the tales about picking berries & about the floating icebergs. But I suppose, I had not expect that this would come with rather complex English that requires more serious reading time, nor the fact that it would feature plenty terms of plants & animals that I'd be totally foreign about as someone who live in tropical country. My bad, should've expected it more.
What I do like about this book, is that while reading it you can feel the muting cold snow around you: it transports you to the scene vividly even for readers who mostly find what's written here a strange new thing to read about. I suppose the book simply wasn't for me, a much better read for the right audience I'm certain! Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher, for allowing me an eARC in exchange for this honest review!

The red herrings, all the very convenient coincidence 'link' between the team in charge with the actual case? The non stop cliffhanger reveals? It gets me going very fast, it's working, but it gets silly overwhelming and unnecessary all the more by the end. And the last cliffhanger? Like?!
Phew anyway.
By the middle I was getting uncomfortable by the ethics, but then again I bet it's meant to be that way: to put us, not as this book's reader, but in the very seat of the audience who'd watch the show: Infamous. The intended ways of putting us in direct POV? Works. If you cut it by 20-50 pages with less tails, could've been an easier 4 stars and up.

Please read the trigger warning to this book as it has plenty, but wow, what a work. I love how--perhaps because the author is still so young--there's genuineness to the way it's written & the way it tells stories. To get into her head and all of the things passing through, how she illustrates it through the companion of Ed & The Mysterious Girl, the dreamscapes of it, yet there was hope and warmth and rawness of adolescence's peak and harsh high school days...? This is among my best read for the year. I am of healthy & well condition but I am on the thin side & it's eye opening to know that everyone felt cold when they're.. thin. And some of the.. how it gets painful & frail it's feeling sometimes to have to sit for a long time. Her relationship with food. The way she saw Dr. Blunt & wanting to get better, even if she hated it at first, at least to dodge that; but then that becomes the beginning of her getting better? I love it. Thank you for sharing your voice, Charlotte.
