I loved this. I loved it a lot.
I really need to, want to, need to reread it
Feel like I need to reabsorb it or just absorb it

This was fascinating
It was so GOOD
And just
The writing
The world building
The CHARACTER building
Just so wonderful
It felt plotty but plotless on a larger scale
Which was very cool in a sci fi novel
That definitely needs more explanation
Plotty in terms of these two characters individual journeys and together
But plotless in that the larger picture and situation they exist in, that they actually create or play a big role in are not as ACTIVELY developed
Tahts not a criticism
It's intentional
And it's wonderful
It's a background
It's a situation that allows for and enhances the actual events and developments of the true plot and protagonists

I am so intrigued by this world
And at times, such as with the incest thing, and some language things it felt like genlys perspective was our perspective
Which was very interesting
Cus he is terran
He comes from a world more reminiscent of ours
And then there were times where he is speaking and thinking very true and real perspectives from our world and that was cool too
Because they're perspectives that need to be challenged and are challenged
They were perspectives that day to day frustrate me and baffle me
They reflect the rigidity that does exist with so many of our world

The discussion on sex and kemmer and all that was so engaging too
And the language around it and so many other topics

So much of this book and story resonate krelated?) with me in some way or the other
It was great
This book was just fascinating.
And it's insane how "relevant" (hate using that word) this book is even today
I had to keep reminding myself how long ago this book was written

But that's the beauty of sci fi 😌 (in the right people's hands)

this was a really good, solid sci fi
it was simpler in terms of character and plot and world than im used to but it was something i enjoyed about the story and felt right for where my head's at rn
by the end of the book i felt like maybe id watch an episode or a double feature of a sci fi found family show
it worked within very small bounds
the actual plot events began around 45% in but the build up and set up prior to that was done really well. it didn't feel slow or dragged out
you got a good feel of the characters and environment - political, corporate, social

i liked that it wasn't doing too much
there were maybe two larger plots and not too many big powers or antagonists and a relatively small cast of characters
it felt efficient and straight forward
even character backstories were never delved into to much
you found out bits and pieces as you went through, where necessary and it worked
and the world building that was there, the world, is soooo cool. i love the whole merc thing, the crime family thing, the 13th thing, the gorin no gakko, all of it
super interesting

the main catalytic premise and plot about serrao-orlav and their opposing party (trying to avoid unintentional spoilers) was really really interesting and i loved reading about rosie and vissia's relation to it
there is so much spin off/novella potential here that i would devour

dialogue was fun
i enjoyed the dynamic between the kurosawa crew
there were very interesting side plots, like kennedy's, which it would be super cool to get a whole novella or spin off for
and the whole beatrice thing was really well done (the endninh)

this was an easy read
and glad it's the first book i picked up and finished in ages cus campus

pretty sure i have more to say because I've been talking/thinking about the book quite a bit since i started reading it but rn they're not coming out
im just glad i got to read a book, and a good one
