i picked this up after it was sitting on my shelf for months and let me tell you it was the best thing i ever did. this will now be my personality trait for the next year.
the world building was perfect, not fast, nor slow. the way everything was explained and it wasn’t half assed. when you found something out, you found out the whole piece not parts.
the magical element is so intriguing to me. the whole concept of the providence cards and how they work. and the infections and how they are described and feared because they can not be controlled.
the characters i loved in every single way. even the side characters. elm got on my nerves but i could tell he was just trying to protect his family. i wish we got more of ione though and her whole ordeal with the maiden card etc. i hope we get more of her in TTC.
RAVYN AND ELSPETH. the romance, although it was only drizzled through i ate that shit up everytime. the fake dating? the “i was never pretending”. sedate me NOW.
i loved them as a duo and when they were seperate. the way they were portrayed was so beautiful. i just love them so much i could scream.
also nightmare, i know he’s like this big scary monster of the cards but i NEED him. anyway.
highly recommend this book and i will be talking about it till i die. about to go look for special editions so read this, thank you! this is a threat xxx

Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
3.5
౨ৎ | "because let's face it, buddy. we've both had our share of loss and we've both mourned too much."
— ★ 3.5/5
i liked the past and present tense that each chapter adapted. it was a bit slow in places and i felt like they just running around the plot and not really touching it.
it was okay here and there but the beginning was extremely slow and well, boring.
the ending did shock me though so i feel like that’s why it’s at a 3.5 not a 2/3.
i also feel like if the book went the other route (what it was leading too) it would have been so much better
౨ৎ | “then what is your ulterior motive?” “you’re so dense. use your head and figure it out on your own time.”

i truly felt myself in each and everyone of these characters. i feel like the glossed over the plot a little bit and kind of just rushed the end. like there wasn’t really any investigation it was just kind of handed to the fmc.
chris lu the man you are 🧎🏽♀️➡️🧎🏽♀️➡️ from the first time he was introduced all the way to the end i was giggling and kicking my feet at everything he said to anna.
this book dealt with real life problems and the way the characters spoke about it was so empowering and you could tell the author has experienced or seen it happen too many times.
the writing was beautifully written and flowed so well. it only lacked in plot otherwise it would have been five stars. but i will read more of this author in the future.

despite the high rating, this book was good, but it could have been great. the writing was fast paced and easy to read. but i feel like they semi glossed over the plot. like we got no details, it was a lot of action, not enough describing if you get me. i thoroughly enjoyed it, i just felt like i could have enjoyed it more.
there were so many plot points that were brought up once and then never again and i feel like i missed out on half a book.
harmony and paul: i didn’t like you from the start, i didn’t like you at the end.
trevor and gayle: if i was in this universe i would protect you.
crystal: you were annoying but i love your brain but sometimes you’re real dumb. grow a back bone!
aaron: i hope you break every bone in your body. i hate you but you also don’t mean anything to me.

i feel like this was mainly focused on katniss and her mental health, which i get. but the ending just felt very rushed and spaced out funny. like it went from them doing this to being shot at to being back in district 13.
i’ve decided i dislike both book AND movie gale. like he had some points but i feel like he just diminished katniss a lot of the time. unsure if that’s just me but yeah.
also wish we for more everlark near the end because that also felt rushed. like there weren’t even minuscule details on how and when their relationship changed.
also the deaths?? why do you hate me.
anyway i did enjoy, i just felt the plot was a bit splotchy and could have been given more.

i loved the everlark crumbs we got, and the friendships and the banter that some of the duos had. this book had so much more depth and intriguing characters. like being able to get more details on the other tributes that we never got in the movies was so special.
i was so, so distraught with the deaths in this book. like suzanne maam you were just killing my favourites off left right and centre in book one and you went in for my JUGULAR in this book.
i also liked how we got a bit more of peeta in this book and got to see him and katniss’s relationship grow. i even like haymitch at points which was good as i kinda found him eh in the first book.
