reading this after watching the movies countless times really made me feel way more emotions than the movies did.

knowing katniss on a more deeper level was everything. i loved her persona and how you could tell she was just a sixteen year old girl trying to survive.

being able to see the slight (and major) differences from novel to movie was so important to me.

i loved the slight romance part even though initially it was just for the games you could clearly get more of a grasp on how katniss actually felt compared to the movies.

also i fear i cried more in the deaths than i did in the movies. it just felt way more intimate reading it.

admittedly the writing felt off? like i don’t know what it was but something was different.

overall i enjoyed this way more than the movies and im so excited to dive into the next one.

when i first picked this up and started reading i was hooked from the first line. the writing although punctually flawed, is so captivating. i was genuinely in shock at how i never knew what was coming next.

muna went through so much and i was rooting for her the whole time. some lines that were written were very oddly worded, so i didn’t know how to take them.

the ending was also very open, and there was no closure. but in my head muna is happy and is living a very good life.

anyway a very quick read that made me question everything and want to cry.

i was under the impression this book would be this tense mystery, filled with suspense and plot twists. but it was just a repetitive, jumbled mess. and the ONE plot twist was literally so, lame? boring? i don’t know.

the book was advertised as a mystery/thriller. the cover literally says, “lily wants to go home. her friends want to get even.” lies upon lies. the way they got “even” was in a way my 10 year old cousin would behave.

i was just trying to get through it. none of the characters were likeable and i felt so detached from them if one had dropped dead i feel i would have audibly went “eh.”

i liked natasha’s prius more than i liked this story, and all the car did was drive. anyway.

also the girls were just annoying, like did they even use their brains at all this entire novel????

don’t get me wrong i LOVE abby jiminez’s writing and the way she always incorporates some type of mental health into her characters. but this was just, meh.

i’m not a debbie downer so i’ll start with the good, i loved the mental health portrayal, and daniel was such a sweet boy and i was so proud of alexis in the last five chapters. and bri, don’t even get me started i love that woman with my whole soul (perks of reading yours truly first i guess).

okay, now here’s where i may not be so… nice. first off cecil can kneel over and die and i would not bat an eye. he was so conceded and egotistical and i wanted to reach into the book and claw his eyes out. god i hate that mean with every fibre of my being its not even funny at this point.

AND THE MAGIC??? literally don’t make me laugh. there is no way you’d make me believe a small town made lightening magically appear or flowers bloom as soon as someone walks into the vicinity. this is a romance book not fantasy.

alexis stance on “he doesn’t fit into my world im rich he’s not blah blah” like i get it to an extent, but when it’s said in every five chapters it just makes me groan.

also daniel baby STAND UP. the fact he was so compliant with just letting ali use him like you’re twenty-eight not two.

but yeah, i liked the characters even though they pissed me off more times then they made me laugh. i did cry once but i was just so overwhelmed with emotions when daniel was talking about alexis.

LOVED bri LOVED hunter.

end of rant.

first off: megan lally never misses. this is her second book and i ate it up. the way she writes just flows so perfectly and the time goes so quick when i read her books i feel like time is endless.

second: the characters i loved them all and i was rooting for them ALL. i wanted all of them to live and succeed.

lastly: when the ending was slowly coming to its peak and i could sort of see where the plot was going. my stomach HURT. i was physically in pain and i was hoping what i thought wouldn’t happen (newsflash it did).

i felt so sick with the betrayal i felt and the feelings i felt for the characters. i am still in shock, even after i muttered “what the fuck” to myself fifty times after i closed the book.

megan lally was made to write mystery books.

long story short: this book made me feel things so vividly, i have never had a physical reaction like this before.

i liked the intial pace of the book but then it just sort of started dragging. the mix of characters while good, was also very distracting.

i understand the author initially had “part 1 Holston” written as a small novella, but had such a huge impact he felt obligated to flush out the next four small parts in eight months. when i feel he should have taken time to do it.

also feel like a romance in this type of book is not needed but we move.

overall i really enjoyed the feel to the book and i loved the intial aspect. but it sort of just fell flat for me around the 70% mark. i might pick up the next book, i might not. who knows.

i loved watching delilah change from the shy timid girl, to this girl filled with rage and becoming someone who won’t let anyone walk all over her. especially a man.

logan was, well, logan i guess!

i wish there was more to the story and more got explained. like i wish we got an epilogue or even a novella spin-off because dee was so, so intriguing. i wanted to know more.

the writing was very fast paced and it was a very quick page turner. i would recommend if you want a quick and easy mystery book!
