Food Court Of The Damned by D. W. Hitz
4.0
For Robyn, Ryan and Phil, school is out for the summer. They decide to get summer jobs in order to pay for tickets to a festival that's coming up. Where better to get a job than the food court in the local mall? Only something strange is happening. Why is everyone acting so strange? And what is this weird red sauce they are told to put on every order?
A nostalgic 90s horror set in a mall? Yes, please. It was fast-paced, it was fun and gruesome at times. Shane had me laughing out loud at some of his comments. This was a short read and it had me wanting more.

Three years ago, heavily pregnant Tamsin was in an awful car accident. Her daughter was born, but Tamsin was left in a permanent vegetative state. Unable to wake up, but able to hear everything around her, she starts to panic when she hears that her husband is planning to withdraw her care in a weeks time, the day she turns 40. She’s desperate to wake up and show them she's been here all along.
This was such a sad read at times. Told mostly from the POV of Tamsin, as she lies in a bed, listening to everyone around her as she becomes desperate to let them know she isn’t dead. It really made me think about what I would want my family to do if I was in this sort of situation. I honestly couldn’t imagine. In between, the story takes us back to before the accident. We follow Tamsin as she starts working as a therapist for a man accused of brutally raping several women. We soon discover the reasons for some of her actions, and why she finds her life is suddenly at risk. There were a few twists, and the tension was there all the way throughout.
I thoroughly enjoyed this from start to finish.

After the events from book one, Blair and Cash find themselves heading off on to a Bigfoot convention, filled with people who believe in the creature, and some who claim they have seen it. When they arrive, they find out that a local teacher has been missing for six weeks, and the only witness to the event is certain Bigfoot dragged him away.
Ahhhh. Okay, so I went into the first book hesitantly. I love Marnie and her books, but I am not a huge fan of the paranormal stories. I ended up absolutely loving the first one, so there was no hesitation when I started this one. And just like before, I loved this one too. While it's a little different to the books I usually like, there's just something about Marnie's writing that draws you in and gets you super invested. I couldn’t put the book down once I had started and now I'm so excited to read book three soon.
And, if you have followed me for more than a minute, you’ll know how I feel about romance in books. But guys, guess what? I'm actually rooting for Blair and Cash to just bloody get a room. If I were a guy, I'd have blue balls by now. @marnie do me a favour and make this happen please 😅

Scrawled in Blood: A Thrilling Serial Killer Novella by Matthew Doggett

When some local teenage girls are found murdered, Carter fears for his daughters safety. He doesn’t feel like the police are doing enough to stop this from happening. So he starts his own investigation, in the hope that he never has to lose his child. Only he ends up putting himself and his family in more danger.
This was a short novella, just over 100 pages, about a man who just wants to keep his daughter safe. Somehow he ends up in the middle of a conspiracy that could be the end of the road for him and his family. It was fast-paced, although it did feel a little rushed due to it being so short. I enjoyed this and look forward to reading more to this author.

This was such a great read. It followed a married couple as they moved into their new home with their young daughters. Leon notices his wife seems to be keeping things from him and he soon learns the history of the house. I enjoyed it from start to finish. My only real issue was that it was just too short and I was left wanting more. This was my first from this author and I look forward to reading more from him.

Ian is an author, and like all authors, he has his fair share of critics leaving negative reviews. After wishing a brutal death on the person who left the last scathing review, he doesn't think anymore of it until he sees the news that she's been murdered. Then it happens again. And again. Only it can't be him. He has an alibi. So, who could it possibly be?
I just could not get into this one. I don't even know what it was about the book that I wasn't enjoying, but I just felt bored the whole time I was reading it. It felt like it should have been marked as a satirical novel rather than a psychological thriller. The first half had a few cliche phrases thrown in as an inside joke to those that often pick it up when reading. It had a few inside jokes from some Facebook groups, about other authors, etc. And at times, I cracked a smile. But after that, it gets frustratingly boring. The overuse of characters' names and the constant reminder of who they were was a little annoying. A couple of the characters were introduced more than once, too.
And yes, I see the irony in leaving a negative review for a book about an author angry about negative reviews. But hey ho.

Bryce is 32 and fed up with his life. While all his friends are in good jobs, getting married and having kids, he's single and in a dead end job. Taking charge of his life, he quits and moves to Paris, hoping it would inspire him to write the next great American novel. On his last night in the US, he meets up with two friends and their night ends when they witness a murder. His life in Paris is great until he finds out his friends have disappeared and are most likely dead. Now the murderers are after him, chasing him across Paris, Munich and back to New York. But how long before his luck runs out?
I really enjoyed this one. It switched between POVs which was great as it really helped the story come together. I flew through this one fairly quickly. I look forward to reading more from this author.

A year after Matt and Lisa escape the family, they move back to the little village they first met, knowing that most of the family are in prison and Amelia has disappeared. Lisa wants them to be a happy family with their son George, but pretty soon she realises that Matt is up to his old games. Once a cheat, always a cheat after all. Only this time, she has her new friends to help her deal with Matts lies.
This was a great ending to the trilogy and it perfectly wrapped everything up. Nothing was left unanswered, which is always a bonus when reading a series. There were some great twists, although I figured some of them out. That final twist made me question everything I'd read in all three books. I do love unreliable narrators. Definitely a must read series.

Leah and Liam are back again, but this time with a new person on their team. As the lines blur between right and wrong, Leah is trying to decide what to do with Jan after learning who he truly is. If she makes the wrong choice, could she lose Liam?
Another great book in the series. Lots of twists, and I loved the fact that someone as emotionless as Leah, starts to show that maybe there is more to her than we originally thought. She is such a complex character. I love the partnership between her and Liam.
I can't wait for the fourth book to come out later this year.

An unlikely duo: Leah, a world famous pianist and genius with savant syndrome; and Liam, an FBI agent. Both trying to make the world a better place but in very different ways. While Liam puts them behind bars, Leah puts them in the ground. After the events of the first book, they have now teamed up in the hopes that together, they can remove the worst of the worst from the planet. Only now, someone seems to have Leah in their sights.
It's been a while since I read the first book, but I remember enjoying it much more than this one. However, this one was great, too. It's always fun to read about female serial killers, especially someone like Leah who is a savant, struggles with normal human emotions, and manages to have a huge public career. Her career makes her extracurricular activities that much more daring, knowing that she could lose everything if it goes wrong. I enjoy reading about the growing partnership between Leah and Liam, and I hope to see that continue. I'm super excited to start the third book tomorrow.
