This book was a highly empathetic sequel to the first book, delivered long after the fact to an audience desperate for hope.

This book was simply not my cup of tea. All of the tension building was fantastic in about the first third ! By the time we, as readers, really start to understand what’s going on, the plot feels a bit repetitive. I loved the concept!

This book was not one of my personal favorites, and was overall a pretty mixed bag. It's premise is a combination of two of my absolute favorite things (The Great Gatsby and Swan Lake) but somehow delivers a retelling that is neither true to its inspiration nor original in a meaningful way.

This being said, I am VERY excited to see how this author grows. There was originality and real magic in the descriptions of the ballets and the parties. While the story had intermittent historical tidbits that felt a bit unnatural (ie. a scene whore Forester looks at a building and mentally remarks that it was built 70 years previous , Forester knowing the exact and full name of the man who designed the telephone box, etc) I thought there was a lot of real connection to Detta and her historical setting (Ballerinas who inspired her, her wearing Worth and Poiret).

This was a good story, but not a great one for me. I would be interested to see how the authors previous work compares, and will definitely keep an eye out for their books in the future.  The magic was very alive in this story, the plot and it's pacing was just a bit off for me.
