I guess I read the American version, because it was the sorcerers stone. I read this when I bought a copy for my little brother when he was little. I was thumbing through it and before I knew it, I had read the entire book. I had to buy him his own copy. I’ve been a fan ever since. I’ve actually read this one several times.

One of the best fantasy books that I read as a child. It made me always just want to go into my closet and end up in another world.

Although it’s not my favorite from the series of books or movies, I did learn so much more that the movies did not tell us in this book.

This was a cute nostalgic read. If you grew up in the 80s, it will take you back in time. I listened to the songs for each chapter as I read them. It helped so much. Do not expect it to be a scary read. It’s more of a corny scary read. It has the same feel to it as the original Evil Dead movie.

I’ve read this book so many times, as a child and as an adult. It was one of my favorite books growing up.

So as a southern gal who wants to move to Chicago one day, this book peaked my interest. I did not realize at the time, that it was a prequel to Glory Bishop. I will have to read that next!

I have not read a book that hooked me right at the beginning like this since The Help. It’s set in the same area and time as that book as well.

The main character, Mary hooked me right away. I adored how strong willed she was and very outspoken. She seemed tough. Even after dealing with her first few tragedies. And she goes through so many. Sadly, over time, the trauma that she goes through does take away that strong will that she has. *Trigger warning: this book does contain strong domestic violence at some points*. When she does lose her strong will, the character starts to lose me a little. She has annoying moments. She kind of repeats herself a bit too much. It still is a great story. I just felt like that part seemed to drag a tad. This, though is not really a complaint. I do have one though. I hate that I did not get to know what the letter she received from a certain person said. She ripped it up. I am hoping that is in the other book.

All in all the writing was done very well. I would love to see more books from this author.

*I received this book to review in a Facebook group that I am in. I was given a selection of ebooks to pick just one to review. I chose this book. My review was not influenced by anyone.*
