Silver in the Bone by Alexandra Bracken

i'm conflicted because the writing was objectively good but also it took me almost an hour to finish the last ~40 pages because the climax was the most boring part to me and i was really convinced i wasn't gonna read the next one when it comes out until i got to the twist at the end and now i don't know. anyway. i can at least credit this for reawakening the merlin hyperfixation

Did not finish book. Stopped at 10%.
tbh if i was a stronger person i would finish it but i just don't think it's for me. plus the author started using the term "fourth great awakening" to refer to the cult boom in the 1960s-1970s US (which i had never heard before), but in looking closer at the term it seems to be 1. disputed by scholars as a great awakening in american society, and 2. when the term is used, it's used to refer to the like televangelist movement and trends of Christianity in the post-WWII years, not cults?? Idk there's just a weird "not entirely well-researched" vibe to it that i'm not enjoying, and it feels like a book that hasn't entirely earned my trust, like i would need to do a lot of fact-checking while reading it, and i'm simply not in the mood for that right now. maybe one day i'll try it again but for right now this is goodbye 😔👊🏻
