Okay, now this is ridiculous.
I do understand that she had trauma - PTSD and shit-, but the whole book was out of chch that it hurt. Not just Pip, it's everyone around her. Ravi, her parents, her friends, not a single person in this book acted like themselves..
<Spoiler>Her parents didn't believe her about the stalking?!! The same parents who trust her and support her from ch 1 when she decided to prove the innocence of a dead man?!!! They didn't pay attention to her, the signs of stalking including bruises after her abduction? They didn't question where she was in the period she got missing in when ravi came home asking for her and telling them he can't find her? They didn't try to push against her dismissal of them after she moved for collage?!! They were very attentive, bordering to overbearing in book one and two and now they miss EVERYTHING?!
Ravi -who was having so much development in the first two books- was so passive in this book it was too annoying. I mean he didn't do anything even when he noticed how she was slipping away. His great idea to help her is take her for a walk? I know he was branded as "hate confrontations" kind of a person but COME ON. He helped her cover up a murder instead of fucking telling her that she is being ridiculous about it and that they had so much evidence that she was abducted and brought to green scene against her will. Evidence that SHE made sure to leave btw. He actually believed they could cover that shit up ?! And i'm not even going to talk about the "plan" they made and how unrealistic it was.
This book ruined Pipa. This is the chch that believed that truth always had a way of getting out. Even if Max not being convicted was a hit to her belief system but wtf?! They had no evidence against Max. The incidences they were taking him to court for were years old so it wasn't a surprise when he walked away because again: no fucking evidence except his confession which could not be taken as evidence. But justice doesn't always have to be in a court room. Max was living as a social pariah after she released her statement. How come she could believe that Stanley (a convicted killer) and charlie (whom she saw murder another person, which literally fucked her up and gave her PTSD) were not bad ppl and didn't deserve the hate coming their way or being in prison in charlie's case. And yet believe that Max was walking from this unscathed.. if she had stood her ground and got him to go to court again, the record would've been examined and he would have been taken down, maybe not gone to prison but by all means possible his life would have been destroyed.. so i truly don't understand why his conviction or lack of was the point that tipped her off the edge. I really can't.
She was always a smart person but somehow in this book she was the stupidest person ever. Starting from the point where she started defending charlie i knew there was a problem. She used to believe in truth so much. Sal wasn't convicted by law but she did the project to find the truth in order to save HIS reputation and family, there was no fucking law here so wtf was wrong with her. And what the fuck is wrong with the police department in that town? She proved herself time and time again and yet they didn't believe her ?! That detective should be investigated. He is stupid af.
