Like The Magicians, this is a good crossover book for teens, who will probably enjoy the anti- corporate greed message. Although I've never been super into videogames, this was still a fun, quick read. The plot is clever and interesting, but unfortunately the writing is pretty so-so. There's too much description & summary, and characters are kind of one-dimensional (I guess that makes sense since they are avatars for the majority of the story). More like 2.5 stars. Even though I found the endless 80s references annoying after a while (how many movies, books, songs are Halliday's "favorite" anyway?) I still found this book pretty addictive.
