Short review: Painfully mid. Boring, predictable plot and uninteresting characters. Could not stop comparing this to Red Queen and Hunger Games.
This book didn't even need a plot. I would've enjoyed it much more as just a romance.

What I liked about this:
Very easy to read, would recommend if you're trying to get back into reading or are in a reader's slump. Read this in one day.
What I did not like:
1. This book is built entirely on tropes. Very little to no original plot-line. I understand why you would like to include a lot of tropes in your book, clichés are cliché for a reason, but if you're not going to build on them, it becomes a mediocre fan fiction.
2. Saying but never showing: The MC is supposed to be incredibly smart, observant and perceptive which she never is. Like girl do you not get it? He likes you, it's so obvious. This was so annoying. Also the male MC is supposed to be good at fighting, and then
3. Bad pacing. The middle part of this book was unhinged in terms of pacing. Some chapters consisted entirely of random talking scenes, dancing scenes which were fun and laid back and other chapters were (supposedly) high stakes action scenes and plotting/planning. There was no consistency or build-up which made the high stakes scenes feel like they came out of nowhere. It was as if the author just wanted to write sweet romantic scenes but had to write the plot too, so they rushed it so that they could get back to writing fluff. Because of this, the last few chapters where a lot of the plot actually progresses felt meaningless and out of place. [And frankly, I did not care about the plot at all.]
4. So much anticipation for the romance which never pays off. The only reason I kept reading this book was for the romance. Which never really progressed.
5. Overall this was just....boring. Mind numbingly boring. Nothing was going on, no romance, no plot, the main character was no thoughts head empty most of the time.
That's what I think. Idk why I read this whole book. Will not be continuing the series

This book healed me a little. I don't understand why people are saying it made them sad or wtv but it was the opposite for me.
This book tackles the questions "How much do you even know a person" and "what if you didn't mean to them as much as they meant to you?"
Honestly, I don't have an answer but atleast now I have the courage to face it.

The most unique execution of the OP main character I've ever seen and surprisingly I like it???
I like how their dynamic is set up. The boy who can't show his true feelings otherwise 'consequences' and the only girl it doesn't work on
I LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEE training arcs!!!! This makes me want to grind rnnnn
it's dragging on too long and it's getting repetitive.
Spoiler
Why was the boat svene repeated like three times??? I know it was done to prove a point but that could've been achieved in a different setting
I think I'll get dehydration from crying so much.
