This trilogy is really reminiscent of Parable of the Sower for me, but I had to be looking up summaries online like every five chapters. I am not smart enough to get this book on the first go around.
I think 90s bodice rippers are just written in a way that doesn’t appeal to me.
The perfect puzzle piece to complement Legends & Lattes. So heartfelt and silly at the same time. The perfect blend of cozy and adventure.
It took me a month to finish this book, and I only did so out of spite. Plotless, wandering, and not nearly as important as it wants to be.
Cool concept, awful execution. Read How High We Go in the Dark instead.

I don’t know if I’m fully smart enough to understand this book but I’m in too deep now
The writing in this book is so shallow and lackluster, I'm surprised this book is as popular as it is. There are more holes in the plot than in swiss cheese. The "smut" is somehow both bland and cringey at the same time. The horror and gore is really used to remind you that this is a book about serial killers. In between the small snippets of horror, we get horribly written angsty insta-love "romance." The premise of the book was a really cool one but the execution was sooooo bad.
1 star added because the first half of the book gave me hope it would be good.

Had some parts that pulled at my heart strings, but you can tell this is Sanderson’s earlier work. The writing just feels inexperienced. Good story, lacking slightly in execution. Obviously I will continue though.
