A Curse for True Love by Stephanie Garber

What a disappointing ending to a promising trilogy. The writing style seemed much more juvenile in the book. The pacing was completely off. The amazing sexual tension that existed in the last book was not there at all. The story dragged on at the beginning, and then felt rushed at the end. Throughout the book, there were so many plot holes and unanswered questions that it just felt poorly written. If I knew this going into the series, I probably wouldn’t have read OUABH.

At first I thought I just wasn’t smart enough to understand this book. But, I looked closer and realized there are quite a few flaws. I am an avid science fiction reader, and I read a lot of diverse books, so that is not what held me back. This book lacks cohesive and quality editing. The writing is good, but the story is boring and confusing. I only stuck with it to finish my Read the World challenge. Otherwise, I would have DNF’ed this. I would not recommend this book until it maybe gets re-edited.

Much more satisfying than the first book. The tension was *chefs kiss* I am really looking forward to reading the last book. The only problems I had with this book may have been because of the genre. It reads like a more mature YA book. But, like some YA authors, Garber does a lot of “saying” rather than showing. There were parts in the book that had me thinking “did you really need to explain that so plainly?”

I mean….I guess. This book definitely took me on a rollercoaster with my emotions. I loved the tension, but by the end it didn’t feel resolved. I also didn’t love a lot of the character choices that were made. It all felt like a set up to read the next book, which I guess I’ll do now.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 10%.
Read like a teenagers Gargoyles fanfiction, but not as good.

Very gritty, and although some of the topics are hard to read about, the writing style is very easily digestible. Just the right amount of character and POV switches to keep it interesting without being too confusing. I’m glad I picked this for my Read the World Challenge, but definitely check the triggers! There were a few parts that were extremely challenging to read for me

Quick read, but the DV and SA was way too graphic for this book to be enjoyable for me. It felt like trauma porn.
