This is definitely what I want when I’m looking for cozy fantasy. Just the right amount of stressful situations, nestled in between academia and fairy tales.
I think this book was too low stakes for me. I understand cozy fiction, but this slice of life just felt mundane to me. I found that it could not hold my attention.
Life is too short to read books you don’t like. 500+ pages and it takes soooo long to get good (I never actually got to an apart where I felt like it got good).
I don’t rate nonfiction, but I would HIGHLY recommend everyone read this book. It is bleak and hard to get through, but so is life. Even more important now than when it was published.
Some stories were stronger than others, but they were all interesting. This was a quick and engaging read, and I’m really impressed by the level of poetry that comes through with a translation. I really enjoyed my time with this book.
I really love a YA book that is well written, and this was exactly that. Even though it is YA, the writing is mature and complex. The characters are multifaceted. I don’t know if the plot itself was my favorite, but I enjoyed the writing style. Would recommend.
I just don’t think I like thrillers. All of my issues with this book are indicative of the genre (i.e. twists until the literal last chapter of the book) But, if my book club keeps picking them, I need to keep reading them. Everyone else in the book club seemed to enjoy it though.
