It was…fine. Not memorable. In a month, I won’t be able to tell you anything about this book. Enjoyable enough at the time, though.

The editing in this books is so bad, it’s almost offensive. It feels like a first draft of a fan fiction written by a high schooler. In the first half of the book, she uses an exclamation point on every page. There are references to things that shouldn’t exist in a fantasy world. So many of the sentences are awkward and the word choice is often clunky.

With that being said, I could not put this book down. The story, characters, and spice are all top tier. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series. Just, please, someone get Opal Reyne a new editor.

Lisa See is only 1/8 Chinese, and it shows. The writing feels desperately  inauthentic, and it gave me the ick.

It’s just really not holding my interest right now.

If you need to “like” the characters you read about, don’t read this book. The Beach is like watching a train wreck with all of the most unlikable people you meet on your travels. However, if you like being disturbed, this book was a ton of fun. I could hardly set it down.

Good book, but life is getting too crazy right now. Will probably pick up again later.
