Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella

I have been wanting to read Sophie Kinsella's books, ever since, I watched Confessions of a Shopaholic but never got to it. When I saw this book in a sale and my friend Janhvi insisted to buy this and when I read its synopsis, I was hooked into it.

It is, as can be seen in the synopsis, hilarious. It was refreshing cause of its hilarity, story situated in London, British words/writing and I totally loved the writing. It was quite a change for me to read a book where an American hero is a foreigner and not the other way around.

Emma is struggling to find a right career and being successful at it. Constantly being compared to her cousin(I totally disliked her by the way) at home. And then she has a terrible day and is bumped into business class seat. She finally feels that her day is turning great, only to make it a sharp U-turn, when the plane hits some clear-air turbulence and it becomes a bumpy ride and Emma thinks that she's gonna die and ends up spilling all of her secrets to an American stranger.

Next day in the office, still unnerved by her flight experience, she finds out that the American Stranger is actually the head of Panther Cola company, for which she works. Jack Harper, he was pretty much a knight in a shinning armour for Emma through out the book. Remembering all her secrets and solving her problems and everything. Until he isn't and messes up in the end.

I liked Jack for major portion of the book but he just turned into a twat in the end and Emma was a bit hasty in making certain decisions too and there was some miscommunication and trust issues were there. But I liked that Emma didn't go back to him easily and Jack had to beg. And everything in the end worked out well.

I deducted one star from my rating cause of the ending. I felt it was abrupt even not technically but I wanted to read a little more, maybe one more chapter. Cause its a standalone, you won't get more of them to read. But aside from that, I love the book.

Some of my favourite quotes:

*
“It’s the way he had a cup of tea waiting for me when I woke up. It’s the way he turned on his laptop especially for me to look up all my Internet horoscopes and helped me choose the best one. He knows all the crappy, embarrassing bits about me that I normally try to hide from any man for as long as possible… and he loves me anyway.”
*
“Relationships are all about trust and equality. If one person shares, then the other person should share, too.”
*
“I've always had this deep-down conviction that I'm not like everybody else, and there's an amazingly exciting new life waiting for me just around the corner.”
*
“So", says Jack at at last..."you broke up with Connor".
Wow. So we're straight to the point.
"So", I reply defiantly. "You decided to stay".
"Yes, well...", "I thought I might take a closer look at some of the European subsidiaries." He looks up. "How about you?"
"Same reason." I nod. "European subsidiaries".”

My first J.D. Robb and I loved it! It's Nora Robert under the penname. As everyone already knows, she's a fabulous writer!
It just took me to my childhood days when I used to read Nancy Drew and fall asleep. Just gives that feeling here.
It's a future based series with Eve, a bad-ass cop and Roarke? He's just amazing at whatever he does, which is, being nosy and helping his wife!

This is my first book by Elle Kennedy to read. And after reading this book, lets just say that I am gonna be looking forward to read more books in the future by Elle Kennedy.

So it is a dual pov book, starting with Hannah, our heroine's pov. It is about how she gets an A in a subject with a bitchy teacher and whole class performing poorly. She is a studious, majoring in drama girl. And here Garrett has failed in the test. Now he loves to play Hockey and with his result, he won't be able to play that anymore as he requires certain amount of grades to keep playing.

Fortunately there is a makeup test being held but Garrett needs someone to tutor him and he finds that Hannah gets an A. He tries pursue her to get to teach him but she doesn't. Finally they settle on making a deal with each other and Garrett's end deal is to fake date Hannah to get a guy she crushes on to notice her. I loved how he tries to persuade her and all.

Hannah tutors him and realizes that he is not a jerk or cocky but is very sweet after all. Hannah has a bad past which is why she can't make herself go to her hometown. But inspite of all that Hannah was a very positive person, sweet yet ballsy. Garrett can't help but be attracted to her. Garrett also has a bad past and can't go to his house too. Garrett was so nice to her. He was a perfect at boyfriend to her. Takes care of her and helps her recover from the bad stuff. Acts her bodyguard when needed and all that.

They slowly fall in love and then there is one tiny dramatic twist. I really liked how Garrett handled it. They are perfect for each other. I loved all Garrett's and Hannah's friends. I hope all of them gets a book.

Some of my fav quotes from the book:
“Him: Confession: I deleted all the 1 Direction from your iPod when u were in the can.
You’re welcome.
Me: WHAT?? I’m going to kiss u!
Him: With tongue?
It takes me a second to realize what happened, at which point I’m completely mortified.
Me: Kill u! I meant KILL. u. Damn autocorrect.
Him: Surrrrrre. Let’s blame it on autocorrect.
Me: Shut it.
Him: I think someone wants to kiss me…”
*
“You won’t let anything bad happen to me, will you, Garrett?”
A lump the size of Massachusetts lodges in my throat. I swallow hard and try to speak past it.
“Never.”
*
“Put me on speakerphone. I want to hear you sing.”
My heart squeezes with emotion, but I try to hide the response by donning a casual tone. “You want me to sing you a lullaby? Aren’t you precious.”
He chuckles. “My chest feels likes it got hit by a truck. I need a distraction.”
