I went into this book blind...you shouldn't.
-Why choose, 3 men, one woman - MMFM
-Lots, I mean an EXHAUSTING (for actual real life humans) amount of sex. All of it is quite graphic.
-She's their doctor, they are/were professional hockey players.
-Happily ("married" to three men) ever after.
I truly disliked the portrayal of women in professional sports like they can't keep their hands to themselves. Someone acting this unprofessional in real life would have been let go and disgraced. I think we should expect better of a lead FMC. However, I did like this book for the smut that it is, the plot was just meh.
If you like smutty books with a hint of hockey, you'll love this book. If you're looking for a plot, you're barking up the wrong tree.

I received the eARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion on Shade of Light.
A kinda-cute, quick, palate-cleanser book that ends exactly how you think. Think US black-ops soldier meets Hallmark movie.
Nate & Izzy’s love story spans 10 years, trauma, deployments, engagements, more trauma…you get it. You want nothing more than for this sniping, tension-filled pair to get together and finally live rather than just exist.
HOWEVER….the book is built on the back of the miscommunication trope which annoys me to no end. I’m a little more forgiving because I’ve been through the boyfriend at war thing, and I know some of the miscommunication is literally due to what he can/cannot tell her.
Would I recommend it, maybe? Depends on the person asking and what they like to read.

If you like fantasy, pirates, slow burns, and/or enemies to lovers, give this book a go. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. I sure wasn’t! *Be warned, this book sets up the second book in the trilogy so don’t expect a pretty, wrapped up present at the end.*
She flees her pampered life and becomes a (quickly caught) stowaway on her enemies ship. He allows her to stay and promises his protection. Except…there’s only one bed in the Captain’s Quarters. ✅ some of my favorite trope boxes!
Slow burn indeed…
Aoife annoyed me at the beginning. I dislike pampered women who make stupid, reckless moves because they are “curious” (like her going out on deck when another pirate ship comes up next to them). No one, not even Aoife, is that naïve and stupid. She may have grown up sheltered, but she acts better than everyone…anyway, she grew on me. She grows a little backbone and has some serious balls for someone so soft.
I like Declan and how he wars with himself over his traumas, and over his attraction to Aoife. His relationship with his crew, and even how he describes Aoife is pretty great.

(written well after the fact)
It took me 3 years to pick up the 2nd book because I was SO pissed.
