Although I’m still thinking about this book and wanting to reread chapters, so….

Think Hunger Games meets The Serpent and the Wings of Night.

Paedyn is a non-magical Ordinary who has lived on the streets in the slums for 5 years. She steals and lies to live. One day she saves one of her marks lives, and her life will never be the same. She is trust into deadly games that threaten to expose her as Ordinary, and expose her heart.

Kai is an Elite, full of magic, a Prince, and the next assassin for the king. He’s spent so many years perfecting his cold and ruthless facade — until he meets Payden. When they become competitors, will be kill ruthlessly or let his heart thaw?

I don’t know how my heart is still hanging on after how this book ended. The last ~10 chapters were hard for me to read because I was so anxious. I had to keep putting the book down. Kai and Kitt are my favorite and I can’t wait, but am also nervous, to see what happens to them.

You’ll get tension (no spice), death, murder, literal stabbing, sweet moments, memorable quotes, budding friendships, betrayal, ruthless royals…everything. It’s slightly trope-driven, but the plot is there. The characters soften and open themselves up which just makes your heart crack open.

However, the world building is slightly lacking (imo), and I do not understand the point of The Purge Trials — what does the winner really get, why do some apply and others are chosen by their peers (maybe)?

This book has ruined my childhood memories of Peter Pan.

This is not a Peter Pan retelling. It’s an adult-aged fan-fic with a barely 18 year old FMC with a voracious sexual appetite. There’s no plot, the FMC is a complete hypocrite, who is bratty, and honestly just annoying.

Cute & spicy, but there is no way that professional hockey players talk like this to each other.

A beautifully written dark story that bored me 75% of the time and I ended up not liking.

A massive miscommunication trope wrapped in an arranged marriage trope.
