I'm going to be honest and say that I've actually 80 pages left but I'm so tired of this book 😭
The magic system is interesting but the story is just so all over the place. The blurb promises a heist but there's no such thing so far. I really wanted to like it but it's definitely not my thing :( I had fun at the beginning but I got tired quick

Huge tw before I proceed to the actual review: if you struggle with body image or an ED, please make sure not to pick this book up in a vulnerable state of mind. There's graphic descriptions of disordered eating, body shaming and judging.
Most people won't like this book. To be honest I'm not sure if I did. In a way it reminded me of The year of rest and relaxation, but if the narrator wasn't so gross and annoying. Vivian was definitely a structured character. In parts she's hard to like, but at the same time I did emphasize with her

Can't go wrong with this one! It's quite funny to me how some things changed as the LOTR universe evolved - especially how happy and silly the elves are in hobbit compared to lotr

I expected something more. I mean I wasn't expecting a LOTR level of complexity but I did want something other than no cursing and gore.

Leigh Bardugo you insane, sick woman. What the actual fuck.
Would've been a 5 star read but I'm petty that Alex didn't get to take a ride on demon dick.
Also, what the fuck!!!!!!!!!!!

Leigh Bardugo you insane woman
There's so much about her writing that I love, from the world's she creates, the characters, but most importantly how she loves and holds up the ordinary girls, the girls no one else cares about, the girls who barely get by, the girls no one listens to.
I have very high expectations for Hell bent. I hope I don't get burnt

So I actually expected something more grim, perhaps related to necromancy. I'm kind of disappointed because at times it dragged, which is exceptional for a book under a hundred pages

Well that was one hefty book!
I can't say I agree with everything the author said (like how he ridiculed trigger warnings as signs of a weak psyche and talked about how running outside can prevent kids from reaching out for drugs in his ending speech. That felt very old man, "back in my times...").
But anyway, it's clear there was a lot of research that went into gathering all this information. I can't really think of any complaints right now because it's literally 3 am and I should be asleep.
I actually had to do two takes at this book - at first I read around 20% and returned around now - in May, to finish it up. It's hard to say why I had a problem with at first - I remember I was confused by the authors direction and why he spoke mostly of heroin, even though it was supposed to be about opioids. I also didn't like the chapters about Enrique, which I felt like were too novel like. I didn't like how he spoke of that man's actions and emotions like he knew them.
But anyway, I think I learned a lot
