I enjoyed a lot of the discussions around race and sexuality in this book. In terms of plot, the first half was great but things started getting a little more predictable toward the end and I didn’t leave this story feeling super shocked. It’s the kind of mystery thriller that doesn’t have life or death stakes, which can be refreshing after higher stakes reads. I think the character development was done really well and I truly enjoyed seeing the way they evolved in their interactions with one another.

This book had me GIGGLING like a schoolgirl. The romance between D’Vaughn and Kris was so adorable. I loved the way the families were incorporated into the story and the reality TV element added so much more to the stakes of their romance. This was such a fun read.

This was such a cute story. I liked the way Thunder’s inner monologue and wolf side were incorporated. This is a perfect read for animal lovers and one I’d recommend for 2nd grade and up.

This was pretentious in the best way. It made me want to search out my notes from the Shakespeare course I’d taken in undergrad (though those have long since disappeared from the digital cloud). The way that the quotes were woven into the dialogue gave a strong sense of who these students were and who they believed themselves to be.

I don’t read thrillers often but I read this for the Haitian Readathon and absolutely loved it! The way the story came together was masterful and I like how every character felt like their own actual person.

This was a fun, quick read. I like the cheekiness of this satire and the audio aspect made this feel like a play. The cast was wonderful and each character felt quite distinct. I think it can be a bit surface level in a lot of the satire but overall, very entertaining.

This is a collection that I know I’ll be coming back to time and time again. I’m glad I finally got around to reading a full collection from Audre Lorde since I’d only read individual poems of hers before. I annotated this collection heavily and I’ll probably annotate it even more with every reread.

I’ve had this on my shelf for several years now and decided this was finally going to be the year I read it, especially since it’s AAPI month right now. The author did an amazing job of showing the nuance in experiences and capturing the essence of what people would have gone through in this time. It’s definitely a book I’ll be recommending to high schoolers.

This series is really growing on me and I ended up liking this more than the first volume. I like how we’re beginning to learn more about this secret organization and the way the character development is giving us bigger peaks into this world.

I was a little hesitant of this one at the beginning but it really took me by surprise. It’s very gory, which I usually don’t go for, but I found the mystery aspect intriguing and I’ve already started the second volume.
