This was a great thriller. It was filled with moments that left me genuinely scared and there were a few times I had to put it down before bed so I wouldn’t have nightmares. I love the way that the history of the Bronx was woven into the story and it’s definitely one I can see myself recommending to high schoolers.

I enjoyed diving into this new world, it felt very immersive.

I enjoyed this a lot. It was a great depiction of guilt and grief, perfect for a young audience.  I wasn’t expecting to but I did find myself tearing up at the end.
dark mysterious tense slow-paced

Vampires aren’t my go to and I haven’t read a lot of gothic stories but this was a really interesting book. I like the emphasis on the class divide throughout the novel. The character motivations are shown really well. It drags a bit in the middle but I think part of that is just how slow the pacing is because it’s a gothic. I think the ending came together really well and overall, I enjoyed this novel.

This was truly one of the best adventure books I’ve ever read and definitely one of the best adventure graphic novels. Aiza’s journey felt so personal, so real. I love seeing the way she evolved over the course of the story and I would love to see this expanded further into a series. Every one of the characters we follow is their own person, none of them felt flat or one-dimensional. It was great to see the way they influence one another and how all of them evolved in perspective by the end.

This was so much fun to read, especially as someone who was recently in academia with grad school. The chemistry was palpable and the discussion of how academia treats women of color, especially Black women, was something I could definitely relate to. This was so steamy and fast paced.

This was such a fun read and perfect for spooky season. The way these characters’ relationships were explored was done so well and I love the supernatural element to it.

I don’t read much horror but I had a really fun time reading these stories. It was interesting seeing the way the authors subverted these tales. The ones that had themes of gender, sexuality, environment, and class were the most interesting to me.

This was a fun read. It definitely has heavy k-drama vibes in its plot and the generally predictable story line but that make its great for when you’re in the middle for something light. I could definitely see this being great for teen readers.

I got chills reading this. The illustrations are gorgeous and it tells a much needed story. I’m glad picture books like this one exist today.
