This story was absolutely beautiful from the illustrations to the message, it’s a true masterpiece. I’m surprised I hadn’t heard about it sooner. It’s definitely one I can see myself getting for my younger cousins and it’s also great for adults. It had me crying which is so rare for a graphic novel for me but this one really got to me.

This was such a cute collection and a perfect lighthearted and relatable read.

This was really great. I enjoyed how inclusive it was and the way this story tackles a lot of real world issues without feeling overwhelming. Nubia was such a great character to follow and I really enjoyed this origin story. I’m looking forward to more from her in the future.

“The white man's dollar is his god, and to stop this will be to stop outrages in many localities.” - Ida B. Wells

I read this for my Identity in African American Literature course. It was so enlightening and it really shows how history continues to repeat itself. The people who say slavery was "so long ago” need to start acknowledging that the end of legal cattle slavery in the US did not mean the end of racism. It also wasn’t a true end to slavery, but I digress. This country has been terrorizing Black people for centuries and its love of capitalism helps that terrorism continue.

I really enjoyed this. It's one of those books that definitely feels like it was written for its audience and I think this would be especially great for middle schoolers. It reminds me of Sharon Draper's books and how it really feels true to the experience of being in high school and trying to forge your path. I especially enjoyed how the friendships were shown.

This was so good! I love the way this story tackled issues of bullying, racism, and friendship. It didn’t follow the generic middle grade formula of "it was all a misunderstanding” or "I have to be the bigger person" and the direction this story took was honestly so refreshing. It's perfect for middle grade readers and I could definitely see this having a long lasting impact on young readers.

This was really nice and I can definitely see the appeal for young readers. This would be a great classroom addition for 3rd grade and up.

This was absolutely beautiful! I love the way the illustrations moved along with the seasons and the message of this was so uplifting. A true work of art.

I received a digital ARC from HarperCollins in exchange for an honest review.

This was so cute! I love the way there was Spanish included within the story and this is so perfect for kids. I could definitely see this as a classroom read for preschoolers or a bedtime story for little ones. The illustrations were great and they were very diverse, there was even a character in the background with a hijab. Definitely something I could see myself getting as a gift for friends with young children.
