Career of Evil by Robert Galbraith

I really think Rowling/Galbraith is excellent at plotting and these mysteries really play to her strengths. I LOVE Robin as a character and I like that this book gives us more of her backstory while emphasizing her capabilities, not her past victimization. It was gripping and a quick read but I was sorry to be done with it and I'm ready for the next one!

I can't believe that a book so technical was so engrossing! Mark Watney is a believable, sympathetic character and his humor definitely pushes the book along. And while I didn't grasp all the science, I loved it--it was fascinating to watch Mark and NASA problem solve. Makes me wish I was more science inclined!

Interesting. Not as gripping as The Bone Clocks but adds some more details to that world. It's set up as interlocking short stories but I would have liked to stick with one a little longer. Overall this world continues to fascinate me.
Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff

Really, the rating is more like 3 1/2. The language is gorgeous and the story is compelling but it was a bit on the dense side and I tend to enjoy characters if I like them more and I didn't like any of these characters. Sometimes it was a bit show-offy--excerpts from Lottos plays, for instance and there were quite a few minor characters that could have been cut out with no regrets. On the other hand, the structure was unique and I was intrigued throughout the book. I did think the ending should have seemed more, climactic?, perhaps and it wasn't in particular. Still, it was interesting and I would recommend it.

This graphic novel was sweet and funny and a lovely look inside Cece's childhood.
