”Existence fucking hurt.
Anyone who said differently lived a pampered fucking life and shouldn’t be trusted.”

Okay, a few things:
1. I really enjoy Sadie and Aran together. As someone who went through an extensive savior friendship phase and is now in her we’re-beyond-saving-but-at-least-we-can-be-fucked-up-together friendship phase, I really appreciated the representation.
2. Massively fucking disappointed in the MMCs, Jax most of all. I can’t say I was surprised when the other three pulled the “well you’re hideous and I never wanted you anyway” card after Sadie rejected them, but I expected better from Jax. Big man really let me down.
3. I have nothing against group sex scenes. That being said, I think it’s narratively important for MC’s to have at least 1 one-on-one, on-page sex scene with each of the love interests, assuming there is on-page sex.
Sadie has 4 love interests, 3 of whom have been with her since book one. Over the course of three books, Sadie has one, uninterrupted, one-on-one sex scene with one of her love interests—the one who is introduced last. I’m not mad about it, but I’m not not mad about it.
4. As far as I know, this is Sadie’s last book. Her story doesn’t end here, but Aran and her love interests will be our MCs for the rest of the series. Which, given how little is resolved by the end of this book, is a bold choice.

I feel unfulfilled.

”If Jax was sweet and aggressive, then Ascher was aggressive and aggressive.
‘Got something to say about Jax?’ Cobra stalked forward and shoved his chest into Ascher. Their noses were inches from each other.
On the other hand, Cobra was just psychotic.”

My toxic trait is that I think I could take Cobra in a fight

“I’d never pretended to be completely sane, mentally well, physically well, or spiritually well. In summary, I was unwell.”

This is my sense of humor, I fear.
No, I’m not proud of it.

Hey, hey.
Yk who wouldn’t respond to your rejection of them by mansplain your own trauma to you, ad nauseam, after having only met you recently?
A bear.

“Choice,” he murmured. “That’s what you value.”
“Yes, and it’s what you have not given me.”
“If I gave you a choice, you wouldn’t even consider it. You’d turn me away because of your prejudice,” he pointed out. I shrugged, not denying it.
“I guess it sucks to be you.”

“Don’t you know? Love is the purest form of destruction there is.”

So much information.
So little context.

“Did you forget who I am?”
“No,” she replied, her smile dropping. “But I think you may have.”

I didn’t like Contract Bound. I had no reason to believe that I would like Eternal Captive.
“Why did you even bother reading it, then?” You ask.
Because I’m addicted to gambling. I come across these books, and I know the odds are not in my favor, but I also know there’s a chance, however slim, that I might actually enjoy myself. And I take that accursed bet every fucking time.
I’m not proud of it… but at least it’s not drugs.
And, sometimes, I’m actually pleasantly surprised.

Was this one of those times?
Well, no.
But I disliked this less than Contract Bound, and that’s not nothing. Vesper and Aurelia are leaps and bounds more tolerable than Silvia and Kier.
Just don’t put a gun to my head and expect me to explain the politics of this society, because I’d have no choice but to pull the trigger myself.

Daisy and Mordecai were the stars of the first book, and they’re still the stars of this one. Bria isn’t an unwelcome addition to the cast, but I could see the whole agent of chaos act getting old pretty quick.
Coincidentally, the three of them have something in common:
They all think Alexis has terrible judgement (which she does)
And
They all think Kieran is bad news (which he is)
