a newly turned vampire stumbles into a pocket universe where everyone is from different points in time and they all work together to provide for their community and also the new vampire falls in love. found family vibes x1000, grumpy/sunshine. what more do you need to know! just read it!
I'm a different person than I was before reading this book. Easily, by FAR, the best polyam I've seen in trad pub. The dynamics were beautifully balanced and delightfully complex, every character really shone in both their strengths and their flaws. The ways they were all drawn to each other felt nuanced yet natural. Brilliantly executed, this was a whirlwind and a half.
If Andrew Joseph White doesn't win at least 5 awards for The Spirit Bares its Teeth I'm gonna lose it.
The navigation of patriarchy, gender norms, and ableism from a trans, ND perspective is so nuanced and brilliant. The world is so well built, the veil and the violet eyes, there's so much happening but it's so well crafted and fits together so naturally it's not overwhelming at all.
I absolutely tore through the second half of this novel, heart racing all the way to the end. Brutal and unflinching with love and acceptance shining at its core.
The most well-crafted autobiography I've ever read. It doesn't shy away from harsh realities for a moment. The amount of parallels Bechdel recognizes in her own life to tie events together makes this a unique and clever read.
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

You can't really go wrong when a book is about books, but you can go above and beyond, and Bookshops & Bonedust certainly does. Sometimes you get stabbed in the leg and have to spend a few weeks recovering in a sea side town with a bookshop and a bakery and you meet people who change your life for the better. If that sounds like an appealing way to unwind, this is the story for you.
Comforting and evocative, this story invites you into a cafe to observe all the staff and patrons as they navigate hurdles through their brief glimpses of the past. Written in four chronological parts this was a quick and easy read that was exactly what I needed.
