one of those books that is exactly what you imagine it to be based on what people tell you. loved how sylvia plath's writing style is almost like reading a form of poetry (which i guess makes sense since she did write some). also loved how the book really allows you to take a peak inside esther's mind by giving you complete access to everything she thinks about. did not love the racism and homophobia that popped in every once in a while.

this book was very difficult to read because it felt like there was a bunch of information trying to load into my brain. however, once i got the hang of it i really liked it. i found the conversation that john had with the director towards the end very interesting.

i read this while at was at camp and it was very easy to do so because i didn’t feel like i had to remember a bunch of stuff in order to keep up with the plot. the relationships between the characters in this book was one of my favorirte things about it because they were so beautifully written. i also liked reading about the different topics alice and eileen found themselves writing about in their letters to each other.

AHHHH i swear celeste ng is fucking amazing !!! i love the way she does family dynamics and how she manages to interlace all the different storylines and characters. its just so mind blowing to see how some of the issues can affect the characters and how they are motivated to do certain things.

i can’t wait to start watching the tv series :))
