I don’t often read mysteries but I enjoyed this one. I do wish it didn’t end so tied up though.
3.75 stars. I really liked the first third of the book when establishing the premise. Then the story went a direction I didn’t expect but felt predicable / familiar (classic hunger games comparison i see in a lot of reviews). But the story shifted again in a cool way that I was back on board for. I am excited to read on because I imagine the characters are only going to get more interesting and dynamic.
Shockingly, this is my first impression of Anthony Bourdain. He’s pretentious, arrogant, a bit of an asshole, witty, respectful when it’s reciprocated, talented and all around an interesting person. I’ve never worked in a restaurant so his experiences were really novel to hear but I know so many people share the ups and downs of working in a professional kitchen. I think everyone could get something out of this book.
