Get ready to throw shit at me and I'll duck and protect my head as well as I can.
I didn't love this book.
I know, the disappointment you feel towards me right now is palpable. I can feel your epic mom vibes right now as you shake your head and say, "I'm not angry. I'm mostly disappointed in you."
I kept waiting for two things: (1) For some valid explanation for Cassie's quirks. (2) Some relationship conflict to move the story along.
(1) We never get a good explanation why Cassie is so quirky. And I should tell you, I had worked up a FANTASTIC reason for all of them that would have made them all make sense: why she had a Barbie in her purse, why her sleeping habits are crazy, why she's so wild. I kept waiting for the big reveal. It never came. *sigh*
(2) The very first bump in the relationship road happens at 84% through the book. Until then, this book is a non-stop loop of dates and epic sex. I know that's why people read romances (myself included) but after 150 pages of date - sex - date - sex - date - sex I started to get antsy. Like, is ANYTHING ever going to happen?
Having said that, this book is GOOD. It just wasn't great for MY taste. You definable have never read a female lead like Cassie. She is BALLS TO THE WALL. And Thatcher was fantastic! I just wanted more from this book.

I usually love this author, but this book just didn't do it for me. It kind of meandered along through a new relationship and then ended. There wasn't a distinct conflict besides the heroine being reluctant to trust men.
This was a pretty good read, but not my favorite of the series. There is great chemistry between the leads and a super-hot scene when they finally give in to their attraction. I'm am still panting three days after finishing that chapter. This book is heavy on the steam and a little light on everything else for my liking.
I do really like that the Single Mom in the story has a daughter who is on the spectrum...HOWEVER... as with almost all Single Parent romances, this kid is just too good to be true. Yes, we see her daughter become impatient when overstimulated and she rarely makes eye contact, but this book is a fairly unrealistic view of a child on the spectrum. Based on what we do read about this little girl and her level of sensitivities there should really be a truly horrific melt down in this story. Instead we get a nod to the Autism Spectrum without a true picture of the challenges that parents of children on the spectrum face. We get a delightful, genius-level, little girl who easily navigates every change and new experience thrown at her in this book. And she just magically has no problem forming a meaningful relationship with our Hero (who HATES kids).
*insert epic eye roll*

Oops, I did it again! I read a novella when I don't really like novellas. Why am I this way? WHY? *screams into the void*
(In my defense, I didn't know it was a novella when I began reading)
Listen, I like a slow burn and a lot of story with my smut. This is a lot of smut with a bit of story. Yes, it was crazy-hot. Yes, there were sweet moments. But the insta-love was just so quick and seemed built on almost nothing beyond sex.
So, if you want a CRAZY HOT SEX FEST QUICKIE then this is a great choice! But it just didn't do it for me.
I received an ARC of this title in exchange for my honest review.

3.5 STARS
I am sad to say goodbye to the Bailey family! I loved this family and their ups and down as they each found love. This book was good, but seemed a little light on the actual romance. Our Hero is working on his sobriety and making amends to the heroine and their daughter. I felt like we got a really good look into the quest to maintain sobriety, but it took up a lot of this book.
I suppose that because these two had already been together the story was light on the actual romantic wooing. Instead we get a lot of the Hero showing up, proving his sobriety, apologizing for past wrongs, and showing he is a changed man. I just longed for some truly swoony moments with the H and h where they were just a man and a woman, not two people reconnecting through co-parenting.
Their story was sweet and raw and real. I loved the chemistry between these two. This book had a lot of sweetness, but not a ton of swoon.

Is this a sweet story? Yes.
Is it a romance? Not really.
This book goes on and on and on forever, introducing you to an entire cast of characters in London and an entire cast of characters in Scotland. The problem is, the MAIN characters are about as distinct as all the rest.
The book jumps back and forth between the main characters, at odd times, and without a solid indication of the switch. This is pretty confusing fir the reader.
And after all that reading and waiting and hoping, we get not even one little kiss as a payoff. Nothing. And I'm pissed as hell about it.
The story and characters had such promise, but it was all watered down to the very weakest version that it could be. This book is basically cold, weak, tea when you are needing black coffee served scalding hot.

Blerg. I am not a fan of Insta-Love, but HOLY HELL, this book took forrrrrevvvvverrrrr to get to the point. It was so slow that I found myself plodding along, forcing myself to continue reading, hoping to get to some sort of love story. I finally gave up.
Life is too short to slog through a book. Maybe this author is just not for me.

Damn my bitchy, feminist, heart.
This book would have received a solid 4 or 4 1/2 stars from me if there weren't a few moments of complete sexism. The sucky part is, those moments were laced into a book filled with an overall feminist outlook. In other words; I'm both confused and kind of pissed.
The grossest of these sexist moments is when our hero, (Nixon/Nix) and heroine (Makenna) are arguing about her going into town to pick up large bags of feed for her animals.
h: "That’s dumb, Nix. I can go to Tractor Supply myself.”
H: "You can, but you’re not gonna.”
h: “I can pick up my own dog food."
H: “Swear to Christ, McKenna, you go pick up two-hundred pounds of feed on your own, I’ll tan your ass when you get home.”
h: "You try that, Nixon, and I’m never baking you chocolate chip cookies again.”
If you read that exchange and didn't see about a gazillion things wrong with it then you might love this book! Among the utter bullshit in this exchange is the threatening physical violence if a woman decides to do her own errand when her boyfriend tells her she "can, but she won't". Awwwwfuulllll.
This, and a few more similar exchanges, ruined an otherwise FANTASTIC book for me.
Do better, authors. No way is this acceptable.
