This book feels mischaracterized as a Romance. The first kiss happens between the H and h at 91% through the book (reading on a eReader).
9/10 of a way through a book is a lot of build-up, but in this case even the build up wasn't very exciting.
The story was so slow in getting anywhere at all (not just slow on romance, just slow in every way) that I just couldn't keep reading. It's hard to engage with characters when the story is plodding along with almost no story arc or purpose. Moving on after divorce and redecorating a house is not that exciting.
This book and its snail-like pace was definitely not for me.

This book had a cute, if predictable, premise but I just couldn't keep reading it past 1/3 of the way through. The writing is all over the place in a way I haven't experienced before. It seemed jumbled and incredibly jumpy, like an ADD journey of constantly shifting tropes.
And the amount of internal dialog was just INSANE. I counted 12 pages straight of obsessive internal dialog that just spun in circles until I was completely bored.
I finally gave up. This book lacked originality, focused writing, and a clear narrative.

While I liked this book, I didn't love it. The story plodded along for so long before any real romance entered the narrative.
I like a slow burn romance, but this book took too long to get there. The characters were well written and likeable.
I liked this premise, but the pacing was off for me.

I found this story morally gross. The female lead is an assault survivor and the male lead meets her ONCE and decides he'a going to sleep with her himself, based on her looks and the fact that she was reading erotica. This is grossly predatory. He is also in a position of power over her and she is young. The set-up is just wrong and not a good premise for romance. Sorry, not for me
I felt I literally HAD to write a review of this book to warn other readers. The male lead in this novel is abusive. He bullies, verbally attacks, points a gun at, and sexually overpowers the female lead.
I am very disappointed at the behavior being so easily FORGIVEN by the female lead. There should be no second, third, and forth chance for this man who continually emotionally harms the female lead.
I feel this book is part of a bigger problem where women are ingesting that they must always forgive and also that the female lead respects herself and her boundaries ONLY UNTIL the male lead begins to kiss or seduce her...then all self respect is thrown out the window. What this book portrays is not healthy, in my opinion.

THAT NIGHT IN PARIS is a sweet novel with a very swoony French love interested and lots of girl squad goodness.
I was slightly disappointed as this book is 85% girl gang and only 15% romance. The romance portion was so brief that there was almost no conflict so it felt a bit unrealistic. The only conflict is the female lead overcoming her fear of heartbreak.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

BETTING ON LOVE is a sweet romance between two people who are just perfect for each other!

Along with these wonderful main characters is a supporting cast (all from the same family) that are warm and wonderful. I loved them!!!

The slow-burn romance between our H and h was sweet and very satisfying. The author does a great job of making you care about these characters and long for their HEA! This is the second book in a series about the Ellis family and I followed along with no problem, despite not having read the first book. It's truly a standalone.

There is "slow burn" and then there is "comatose burn". This book was the latter. It's a shame because the characters were nice and the premise was good, but this author needs to craft stories with pace and in which the scenes contribute to the story.
This book really struggles with having any sort of intent. It feels like you're running meaningless errands with these two main characters for 90% of the book. There is no spark, no sizzle, and no focus. And the amount of times these two asked each other "are you okay?" and "are you alright?" was extremely annoying. I'm pretty sure that question was included 50 times in this book. But the answer never led anywhere.
Overall this book had promise, but lacked any sort of momentum.

I've read the other books in this series and I have to say this one fell a bit short. I would struggle to call it a "stand alone" because the previous book is mentioned often without a lot of clarification or a summary. I read the previous book and even still I was having a hard time following the references. This storyline would only be seamless if you read this series back to back.

While there is a lot of good in this book there are also some gaps in the story. There is a police case that comes to light in this book and there are a few wholes and parts of the mystery left completely unexplained by the end. There is a separate plot line that is referenced repeatedly in the story that resolves with no explanation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's possible that some of those missing storylines are being saved for a future book, but as it stands it just makes this book feel rushed at the end and incomplete.

Why do chef romances get to me? Maybe because I'm kinda in love with food. HADLEY BECKETT'S NEXT DISH is a great read that combines food, friendship, and romance. Hadley just won a TV cooking competition against celebrity chef, Max. And that's when Max loses it. On camera. Possibly destroying his career. Then these two enemies are invited to be on the same cooking show together and they can't refuse.

I expected this book to be a fairly frothy book, but it surprised me with its depth. It dives into family relationships, addiction, power, the roles we play, ambition, and forgiveness. And these two don't just kiss and then get a HEA. Like real life, relationships are complicated and have peaks and valleys.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The pace was pretty slow at some points and I found myself sometimes wishing for a bit more momentum.

This book did a great job of being sweet and swoony, but also complex and realistic. And the ending is SO PERFECT.
