Light. Mystery. Dimensional.
McMahon blended the world as we know it with a more spiritual other-worldly reality wonderfully. It was a nice steady mystery throughout the three different timelines. They came together and blended really well into a gripping mystery as told by multiple people across a century or more.
The writing was really simplistic, allowing for a quick, easy read. This book had more fantasy than I usually go for, but I enjoyed the story! The characters were relatable and the writer makes the reader sympathize with the characters through their battles.
Overall, this was a good, quick fiction read! I will probably look into more books by Jennifer McMahon when I'm looking for another light read!

Quick. Funny. Light.
This is a novella by Mindy Kaling that caught my eye because I've seen her in interviews and she's hilarious, and I got the book for free, so that's a win! With only 17 pages, it is very quick (read it on my lunch break), light and funny. I think people with kids would be the target audience for this, but I (no kids) also had a few good chuckles.
Definitely recommend (especially if you can nab it for free)!!

Disturbing. Traumatic. Heartbreaking.
⚠️TW: pedophilia, abuse (sexual & mental), rape, suicide
Russell brings us through a traumatic experience when Vanessa is a teenager and then through to her as an adult. Written entirely from her perspective, it brings you through each experience in quite a bit of detail.
Russell really dives into the effects of manipulation, psychological trauma, and abuse in many forms, in such a way that really makes the reader experience how lasting the impacts can be. This was very well-written but a very difficult read. I have mixed thoughts on Vanessa... But don't want to give any spoilers, but reach out if you've read it and want to discuss!
If you want to read it but have any questions/concerns about content, please reach out first! I would hate for you to see my review and end up being very uncomfortable when you read it. It is disturbing, dark, and has potential to trigger many emotions and feelings. The writing is captivating and engaging, which can make it much more difficult.

Heart-wrenching. Hopeful. Beautiful.
There are no words I can say to explain this book. It doesn't even feel like a book. It's too real.
This is a heart-wrenching story. It was a difficult read, with characters going through struggle after struggle. But it was probably the most beautiful story I've ever read.
I can't say anything more than if you only read one more book this year - make it this one. It was absolutely beautiful. I have no other word to describe it. Just pure fictional - yet very real - beauty.
However you want to say it - 5 stars, 100%, 10/10 - I know it will stay with me and be a book I recommend time and time again.

Heartbreaking. Resilience. Connection.
Thistle brings us through his memories from the time he is a young boy. There are memories that were difficult to read, and to imagine a little boy or young man going through them is heartbreaking.
The writing has an authenticity to it, very reflective and honest. Thistle brings up different issues he struggled with throughout his life and his way of reacting to them - good and bad. It was a wonderful read, although sometimes difficult.
I would recommend this read for sure! Let me know what you thought if you've read it!
TW: racism, addiction, violence

Relatable. Light. Easy.
Another quick read by Kaling! This was about 20 pages and I really enjoyed it! Made my Friday lunch break nice and relaxing. This one was more relatable for me and I really enjoyed!
I would recommend it! Again I got it for free so that's a win! #primereading

I thought it was good! It explored racial issues really well at the start. The writing flowed well and made for a quick, easy thriller, while still exploring the issues of systemic oppression fairly in-depth, which was a nice balance. It had a carefully orchestrated beginning but felt like the ending was rushed and kind of lost some of the validity Cole had created throughout. I definitely did not anticipate the ending and think it could have been better.
Adventure. Personal Growth. Life.
This was my first Kristin Hannah book and I understand the hype now. I liked her writing style, the pace of the book, the story, and the way it all wrapped together.
It dealt with a few tough issues such as abuse, loss, teen pregnancy, and others in a family setting (I don't want to spoil anything so I'll stop listing here). The way Hannah had this teenage girl and then woman grow through these struggles was well done. In my opinion, nothing was unrealistic or "overdone" or stood out from the story. It all flowed and blended really well together.
The story came together beautifully and the pieces worked well to create this wonderful journey for the reader to take.
I really enjoyed this read, although different from my "usual" genre. The characters drew you in and had me wanting to know what happens. I finished it in a day and a half! It was very good!

Grief. Moving on. Change.
This story was told in a unique way. I enjoyed having the different perspective and think the author did well creating this world under similar but different assumptions throughout the story.
It was a slow, steady pace throughout, which created a quick, easy read. I appreciated it's difference as a mystery novel and how it explored grief through a victims view.
However, the story did not captivate me as much as I was hoping. I read through it quickly, but it didn't provide anything for the reader to look forward to or keep the reader turning pages in anticipation. I think it had potential, just fell a little flat, personally.
Have you read it? What did you think?
