ARC review. It comes out 13th of June.

Wow wow woooooowww. I am blown away by this book!
I adored every single character (this includes a zombie ferret, because this book is cool like that).  The story was gripping from beginning to end.
I laughed, worried, startled, felt indignant, loved fiercely and softly. I felt things that I don't even have names for.

The writing style.... phenomenal! Poetic. Without stuffiness.

Look at the opening line:

~London's forgotten churches held many secrets, but the dead girl sprawled across the altar wasn't supposed to be one of them.~

And snark. I love snark.

~Sulphur filled the air, its rancid stench burning my nostrils. Delightful. This was exactly how I'd planned to spend my Thursday evening.~

I highlighted extraordinary amount of quotes. I am mad at myself for not picking up a T.J. Rose book earlier. It is legitimately next level writing.  Descriptions are marvelous. Scents, felt sense, what we see, where we are.

My favourite quote:
~My chest tightened with an emotion I couldn't name. Something between grief and joy, between longing and finding. A tear slipped free before I could stop it, trailing silently down my cheek and onto the pillow. I had forgotten what this felt like. To be held. To be touched with such innocent tenderness. To feel anchored to another, tethered to safety. To feel human. Like darkness wasn't all I had to offer.~

The story and characters are rich in depth and layers. Between Flynn and Sebastián there is beautiful intimacy. Unusual and perfect.

ARC review, the book comes out 30th of May.

🏒 Second Chances
🏒 Starting Over
🏒 Opposites Attract
🏒 Fruit salad is a love language
🏒 Light exhibitionism kink
🏒 Workplace romance

It is always a pleasure to receive a Brigham Vaughn book on my kindle,  but especially this one!
I was a very happy bookworm!

Not only I got a steamy romance,  but characters that exist outside a romantic relationship.  With full lives,  with good,  the bad and the ugly.
The not naive love, but loving and showing up after you have been hurt. Romantically, but also with (found) family and colleagues.

I loved Gavin. Mister big D energy, always working and 'black is easy to match with black' wardrobe.
I loved Dekota. Bringing yoga and pilates,  but not taking any bullshit.
Their dynamic was real, interesting en kept me enwrapped.

There is also a trans side character and I think they deserve another whole post from me.  They worded things that I struggle with in my own way.  How can I show up in times where minority groups are vilified and minimise harmful impact on my own life? Very relevant in these times.

This is straight up trauma porn.

It is fast pace, it held my attention.  All the characters have depth.
It is great how the writer reveals different layers throughout the book.

But the trauma is being rapid fired. It seems to have no other purpose than to make the reader feel anxious and  horrified.  It is used as entertainment,  not as doing trauma any justice.
The book has no arch of it's own.
The characters have no redemption.  It is violent. No spots of light.

It feels dystopion that this has so many good reviews.

I love the introduction to K-pop. I'm new to that world and it was lovely to learn more.
I definitely appreciate the writing style. It was easy to read.

The book lost steam for me, when most of the story is told through conversations and inner thoughts.  I prefer to be shown, not told.
The book also focuses mostly on the romance and the development of that.  As a reader  I like to have more plot or story lines to add more substance and depth.
It reads a bit like fan fic. And no shade to fanfic,  because I love that.

Favourite quote:
"I have to pick up treats and a new stuffie for Noel. Despite her small size, she can disassemble those "im- possible to destroy" toys like some kind of tiny chaos demon fueled by aggression and rage at being forced to live this life as a miniature poodle-chihuahua mix. The most recent victim- an octopus that was supposed to be able to survive the wrath of large dogs with outrageous bite strength-had lasted about two days before I found it tentacle-less in a heap of cotton fluff behind the couch. Two of the eight arms were never recovered, and I can only imagine what kind of fate they met."

Brim over Boot by Emmy Sanders

I got extremely lucky and got an ARC. The book comes out 22nd of May!

Rivals to lovers... and not just a moment. The tension and snark remains throughout atleast 80% of the book.  That doesn't mean that the spice isn't happening,  because it is and ooohhh myyyyy it is HOT. Manhandling,  begging and with plenty of praises.  Noah is a very possessive cowboy. Colt wants to surrender,  but how can he give up the fight?
My heart is mushy for these men.

TROPES:
℧ Cowboys
℧ Hate/rivalry to love
℧ Double queer awakening
℧ Throat 'hugs'
℧ What are you doing with that carrot 🥕?
℧ One horse

Emmy Sanders paints the scenery so well.  I loved my stay at the Darling Ranch.  I can't wait for Lawson and Remi their stories.

This book had elements that were very interesting.  A squirrel shifter with a raccoon shifter, forced proximity and grumpy/sunshine dynamic.

The writing style made it easy to read.

I would have loved to see more cultural world building. Like what are the habits, norms, values, do or don'ts of these shifters?

One of the main character was irritated by the other one and was often rude about it.  That this shifted to romance without really addressing that, made me disconnect and not root for them.

It is a story about 2 men in love,  finding their third. They are cutie pies. I like the trans rep and the aroace rep.
For me it was lacking plot and depth. I need more story to get drawn in.
The writing style was good.  But this novella wasn't for me.

It was an easy and light read for me.  Pace and writing style was great.

Golden retriever / black cat.
Light Domming / good boy

Cody is a happy, bubbly and good person.  I would class him as a himbo.
Beckett hasn't had his first cuppa yet when he meets Cody. His first line is:

"Murder was not previously on my list of things to do today. But if the person in line behind me doesn't stop making so much f****** noise before I can even order my coffee, it is getting added right to the top."

But those thoughts disappear when he sees Cody.
Instalust isn't my favourite trope,  but it made sense in this story.

I love that Cody accepted his bi-awakening. It is nice when it is unproblematic.

I was intrigued by the cult/mlm part. Since I have had people disappearing into those kinds of groups,  it feels recognisable.  It didn't feel heavy.  This book stays on the surface and light side.

And that is also why my rating is 3.5 stars. Some developments went too easy for me. I needed more weight to some moments.  More in depth feelings.
Update: I still remember this book,  in a good way. Even though I have some criticism, it is a lovely story.

I am happy that I dropped everything to pick this up. My neurospicy mind was fried by a busy week. But my brain squirrels could easily focus! The story and writing style immediately pulled me in.

It was such a fun read!  Cooper and Chaos are very distinctly different characters. I love them both. I would want hug and squish them,  if I wouldn't be set on fire by Chaos.

Their dynamic is so respectful, loving and hot! Caring.  Soothing something in my soul.
The spice was delicious. Connection with the naughty,  sign my demi ass up!

It was my first book by this author.  It is book 3 from a series,  but truly it can be read as a standalone. I had no difficulties whatsoever.
I want and need to read more books by @authorgraebryan. I'm okay that my tbr will never ever recover.

I think if you love Louisa Masters,  Lark Taylor or Nik Knight,  that you are going to love this too!

"Well? Summoner? I don’t have all day.... Well, I do. But it’s very boring in here."

I listened to the audio. The narration is excellent.

I had so much fun!  It made me smile throughout. Twice I lost it so badly that I had to keep rewinding. I couldn't hear it over my own cackling!

The contrast between nerdy Simon and pink haired mohawked rebellious Dalton, really worked for me.

The pacing flowed really well.  I would have loved more time and development for the romance.

I am definitely buying the ebook for eyebal reading and the next one too!
