After getting divorced, Via, a thirty-two year old lawyer, decides to pack up her life in California and move to Maine to open up an art studio. After a few days in town, she decides to go out to a bar. It's there she meets Reid Crawford, a twenty one year old with glasses, who is completely taken with her. One thing leads to another and they end up spending the night together. She doesn't plan on seeing him again but is in for a surprise when she ends up on a date with his dad. Reid makes his intentions known and they begin a secret relationship that becomes much more than either of them imagined.

Your Honor, I fear I love Reid Crawford with my whole heart โœ‹๐Ÿป I love this man. He fully embodies the boy obsessed and falling first tropes. Reid was completely taken with Via from the moment he saw her in the bar and knew she was his forever. There's something about him being younger than her that I love. I think it's that he is younger, eleven years to be exact, yet mature and knows how to treat her. There's something so hot about his confidence in their connection and his ability to care for her. I loved that he went at her pace, but pushed her walls when he knew he could. He really sees her fully for who she is and loves every part of her. Also, the mouth on that man ๐Ÿฅต

While I do love this book, I did think it was too long because of some unnecessary details and information. If Reid hadn't been a shining star in this book, I don't think my rating would've been as high because I'm not a fan of long books, especially those with unnecessary information. I hope that for the next book, she's able to cut out the unnecessary details.

Remington Wild has recently taken over his family's ranch, Wild River Ranch, from his father. Since taking over the ranch, Remington is pulled in a million different directions and needs help with his two children. He ends up hiring Erin Montgomery, a new resident of Bitterroot Valley, and the beautiful woman he sees every day at the local cafe. Things between Remington and Erin start off strictly professional, but as Erin spends more time with Remington and his kids, they both can't help but fall for one another.

This was just an okay story. I felt like the characters had an odd dynamic. Their conversations felt childish at times and I didn't care for their nicknames.

The spicy scenes were just kind of blah. They didn't add to the story or their relationship. And this isn't me saying that a book needs spicy scenes or that those scenes need to be super spicy. I've read some books with little to no spice that are my favorite books of all time. I do think if you're going to include those type of scenes, they need to make sense to the story and help connect you to the characters. That wasn't the case with this book and I do wonder if there were no open door scenes if it would've been better.

I didn't care for the writing style. There was a lot of exclamation points being used and some sentences were fully capitalized to emphasis yelling. In my opinion, if the writing is sound, you don't need to heavily rely on exclamation points or fully capitalized words to emphasize a specific emotion. I think the writing lacked the ability to convey the story fully and the author had to use those to convey the scene to the reader. For me, that was a turn off.

Also, there was a weird comment about California in this book. It was a grumpy character saying that people that want the town to be California should've stayed in California. It was an unnecessary detail that feels very coded (if you know what I mean). It had me side eyeing the author a bit.
