A delightful middle grade fantasy adventure with themes around overcoming pre-conceived notions about our identity and teamwork. Read by David Tennant and written by the author of the How to Train Your Dragon books. Delightful!

I LOVED How To Solve Your Own Murder, and was delighted to return to the world of Castle Knoll. This time Annie is pulled into the mysteries and fortunes of the fortune teller herself, the woman whose words shaped great aunt Frances’ life (and whose life was much more entangled with Frances’ than Annie realized.)
Love the characters that populate Castle Knoll, and especially how many have surprising stories and are better (and worse) people than they seem in the surface. I also love how the Castle Knoll mysteries contain many of the usual British village murder tropes but they still feel fresh and original. Once again an excellent mystery, well told. I’m ready for the next (and would really like to see movement in what I hope is a long burn romance between Annie and Dt. Crane.)
Super thankful to NetGalley and Penguin Dutton for an advance copy in change for my honest opinion.

Fascinating. This was recommended to me as good family road trip listening, but it was not a hit with my crew (and is longer than the drive to Yellowstone and back), so I gave up. So glad I took the time to go back and finish. The chapters on whale (and elephant?!?) songs were my favorite, along with the conclusion. I was expecting there would be an ecological point about lost habitats, and the description of the global loss of darkness and silence was very moving. I was not expecting an impassioned warning about the danger of only valuing wilderness that is majestic (even now there are no national parks in the grasslands), ignoring the value of the simple and common.

Cozy fantasy at its best. The authors note says she set out to write a book that feels likes drinking hot chocolate and she did exactly that.
