Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf

This book just really wasn't for me. I adored the idea, and while I think it was executed very well, the characters fell really flat for me. I had no attachment to any characters, and I did not care one bit if the main character completed her quest. If she would have died halfway through, I would have shrugged my shoulders and moved on.

A lot of people say it has a really shocking ending, and I just found myself saying, "Meh, it's not that surprising."

I don't like to drag books through the mud, because they are someone's work. The characters just weren't for me, but I think the story was well written.

Captivating and beautiful

Such a wonderful read. The story was intriguing the whole way through . There are so many excellent quotes as well. Highly recommend this book and I can't wait for the sequel.

Where do I even begin?? This whole concept of this book blew my mind. Cities are embodied as people, and all the boroughs of New York City are individuals themselves. Basically, cities have souls. I love New York City with a passion that I get from my dad loving the city. I have really wanted to go back and visit again, but with the pandemic, I obviously cannot. This book whisked me away into the beauty and magic of New York with an added bonus of a wonderfully crafted story. There were parts of this book that shook me to my core.

"Come, then, City That Never Sleeps. Let me show you what lurks in the empty spaces where nightmares dare not tread."

This line made me physically gasp. I had to actually close the book as well and regain my senses for a moment.

This book is a treasure, and I am so happy I picked it up. If you like the idea of this book, or love NYC at all, read this. You won't regret it.

Do not read my review if you are avoiding any minor spoilers...

OMG YOU CAN'T END A BOOK LIKE THAT! YOU CAN'T RIP MY HEART OUT AND LEAVE ME WITH SO MANY QUESTIONS!

I thought I was going to get at least 4 hours of sleep before I go to work (since I decided not to sleep and finish this book) but now I'm afraid I won't even get that. I literally threw my sandwich near the end. I THREW FOOD! Who does that?! Needless to say, that's enough to get me to give it 5 stars.

This has all the feels of a debut novel, and the start of a series. But surprisingly, there was more action than I expected. It was thrilling, gripping, amazing, enchanting. Might easily be my favorite of this year. I can't wait for the next book.
Burn Our Bodies Down by Rory Power

Rory Power is now an autobuy author!!!!! I wasn'y sure what to expect after Wilder Girls. Our main character, Margot is conflicted. She goes searching for answers herself. The moment she really grows in the book, it is amazing! 10/10 stars on that. Our story is weird, mysterious, and intriguing. I was really on edge the entire time wanting to know where we were going. Some things were slightly predictable, but it in no way ruined the story. This town.... oh it has so many secrets. You have to read it for yourself. 4.5 stars for this book. I already ordered my copy.

I literally could not put this down. Anytime I tried to, my cat came and laid on me. He knew how good it was. I related to Eliza on so many levels. I may not be a creator of a super famous web comic, but her attitude towards things resonated with me a lot. I also have two younger brothers who are close to each other in age. The author described everything very beautifully, even when the situation was not so beautiful. This book will stick with me a very long time, and I'm happy I picked this up.
