This book lived up to the hype. It does have similarities to the Hunger Games and Divergent, The Selection, etc. I also felt that it was its own story as well. That ending, I didn’t see that coming! The last few chapters shocked me! Wow!

The male main character was rude to the female main character. He didn’t rely on God or show repentance for his behavior. I do understand that he had anxiety but it was no excuse for him to be mean. Also, I thought his relationship with his best friend was weird to me. Overall, it was an ok book. I like the author’s writing style.

I was worried after reading Wooing Cadie but the faith aspect was handled better in this book than Wooing Cadie McCaffery. I still would have liked for the gospel, sin and repentance to be mentioned. I wouldn’t classify this book as Christian fiction. With that being said, Bethany Turner can write a good rom-com.
-Piper didn’t do a good job disciplining Sarah. Sarah’s conversion wasn’t described. I would have liked to see Sarah grow in her walk with Christ before meeting Ben.
-Laura wow is all I can say.
- I liked how Ben and Sarah were honest with each other.
-Roman’s 8:28 was mentioned and I would have liked to see this verse explored more throughout the story.
- The topics that Bethany Turner addresses in her books are great. I just would have liked for them to be handled differently. 😔

This was not an easy read but I enjoyed learning about Martha Ballard and this time in history.
I liked Martha’s daily journal. It was refreshing to see Martha’s faith in God.
Warnings: intimacy between husband and wife hinted at, rape, cuss words
