Cindy K. Sproles is one of my favorite authors. Her stories are so impactful. I loved how Edna called God sir in her prayers. This book is sad and hopeful. The themes in this book are: not letting what people say about you define you, choosing what kind of person you will be, forgiving and loving others even when they mistreat you, and not judging people based on their looks.

“It’s the choices we make that make us who we are. Not what we look like.”

I like how each chapter is formatted. Each pastor wrote a letter in response to Martin Luther King Jr’s letter from his “Letter in a Birmingham Jail.”

“It is inconsistent with the gospel for believers to lift up the name of Jesus with one hand and hold onto racial attitudes, thoughts, beliefs, or actions in the other hand.”

This book is truly a blessing. I like how the author includes a prayer, scriptures, and reflections at the end of this chapter. This is a book I will refer to throughout the years.

I read 308 pages. The story was actually ok but I wasn’t interested in it. The Shippers were funny, though.

I read 14 pages. Not for me. A character is referred to as a demigod.

I read 111 pages. I felt that her corresponding with Lewis when she was married was inappropriate because she started to develop feelings for him. Also, the drinking and smoking was unexpected. This wasn’t the book for me.
