Plan to Fail follows immediately on the heels of its predecessor (Red Rover, Red Rover) and is a blast. The series is delightfully Scarecrow and Mrs. King-esque in terms of setup but with its own voice and an accidental spy pair who actually get along. Book 2 was a lark to read - really run. Only complaint: too short! But I also like that these pocket-sized stories can be read in one sitting (or late at night in bed, as the case may be). Definitely recommend. :)

Like Long's fanciful book The Magic MirrorJosie Bloom is a serious story cast in a surprisingly lighthearted frame with quirky characters and a likeable, proactive, realistically drawn protagonist. I particularly enjoyed the way Long wove together Josie's problems, her friendship with Winky, and baseball.

This was a fun, charming, off-beat sci-fi adventure set in the future but with a very contemporary feel. I definitely want to read more from this author.
