The writing was beautiful but this one just didn’t hit like The Hacienda did for me. The pacing made it hard for me to get into idk. Still very well done, Isabel Cañas is so talented there’s no doubt about that, but not my fave.

4.5 so I was between a 4 and a 5 here but the end of the book just really put it over the top for me. I was expecting a fun historical fiction about the Rockettes what I was not expecting was the mystery plot about basically the guy who started criminal profiling. Mindhunter anyone?? I loved Marion so much and her refusal to be put in a box or be tampered down by anyone and most importantly by the men in her life. I would 10/10 recommend this to anyone who wants to be transported to the sparkling lights of Radio City Music Hall’s past with a page turning mystery thrown in.

Adult summer camp book? Sign me up! It’s fun, it’s original, it’s sapphic. I really want to go to Tommy and Tim’s camp and I’m sad more places don’t exist like it IRL. Some of the main character’s musings as well as some of the dialogue was a little corny towards the end, hence not a full 5 stars but it was very enjoyable regardless. Pick this book up for the perfect end of summer read!

The latest book from the author of PRACTICAL MAGIC is a stunner! It truly gave me all of the fall feels and will definitely be added into my seasonal rotation. It was also so beautifully written, I truly felt I was in Blackwell, Salem, etc. wherever the characters happened to be at any given moment I could feel the crisp air and see the bright leaves in my head. I highlighted so many passages because the prose was just so stunning. Mia’s story of saving herself and her voyage of self discovery was so beautiful to witness and I simply LOVED how Nathaniel Hawthorne and his story/The Scarlet Letter were seamlessly woven in. It really felt like a love letter to books and stories and it was so moving.

TL;DR… it’s got cults, it’s got magic, it’s got Salem, it’s got The Scarlet Letter, it’s got cozy fall vibes, it’s got beautiful musings about stories. READ IT!

Such a sweet book. It was very much giving Willy Wonka vibes and I loved the big hearted adventure of it all. I have to say every time they said “tick tock, welcome to the clock” my brain responded with “tick tock, the arena’s a clock” from Catching Fire lol. Would recommend to anyone looking for a heartwarming story.

This was so beautifully written and even though it had a good amount of sadness I truly enjoyed reading it because of how stunning the writing was. I felt like it was so real too and I loved the friendship of it all. I hope Genevieve writes more, she has a gift and I will definitely read it!

So fast-paced, the perfect read-in-a-day beach read. If books about con artists are your jam, I think you’ll enjoy this! I wish it wasn’t wrapped up so quickly but besides that I had a good time and couldn’t put it down.
