The Only One Left by Riley Sager

This is definitely Sager’s best recent work. The twists just kept coming and it was spooky at parts. I did think the main character was insufferable a lot of the time but I got over it. Would recommend!

This book was truly a JOY to read and I looked forward to picking it back up every time I had to put it down. Fizzy was a great MC with a loud mouth and who wasn’t afraid to state her needs. It’s so refreshing to see that in a female lead. The game show setting was so fun, so if you liked books like The Charm Offensive, One to Watch, etc. you’ll adore this. CLo swoon and banter is so top tier.

I enjoyed these essays on audiobook, it felt like listening to an informative and funny podcast. The look at queer women through the lens of pop culture was illuminating and fun. Some of the things I was too young to remember so I found those particularly interesting. The only issue I had with the book was a seeming hypocrisy where the author goes in on Perez Hilton for dragging celebs out of the closet and trying to out them, and then in the next breath goes into her deep dive on theories about Taylor Swift’s sexuality and potential queer relationships.

I really enjoyed A Perfect Vintage! The protagonist being a childfree woman in her 30s by choice was amazing. The setting in French wine country was super fun to read about. My only gripe is I felt like the build up for the romance storyline wasn’t really there, it felt like they all of a sudden were just obsessed with each other. Once it got going though I enjoyed them so much that I wasn’t bothered anymore. I really hope people pick this book up for a fun, well-written summer read!

4.25ish. This book is a stunner. It’s epic and suspenseful and heart pounding literally the entire way through. I was riveted every step of the way and I couldn’t stop reading bc I had to know what happened next. I was expecting a full thriller/suspense story which it did deliver on the suspense, but what I was not expecting was the emotional and heartfelt aspects of it all. Somehow despite this book’s dark subject matter, it leaves you smiling at times. I definitely recommend this book to everyone and I will not hesitate to go back and read Falling now.

Thank you to TJ Newman, Simon & Schuster and netgalley for the early review copy in exchange for an honest review.

For fans of Scream and Friday the 13th, Kalynn’s first horror story packs a punch! At under 250 pages, you can read this spooky book in a day. The premise of recreating a horror movie at a camp every night to paying customers was so interesting to me so I love that she went there. I think my favorite part was towards the end when the twists start coming and they do not stop. That end!! My only complaint is that for once I actually do think it could’ve been longer. I really hope everyone picks this up for a quick spooky summer read!

The Daddy Diaries: The Year I Grew Up by Andy Cohen

There are many interesting tidbits here about housewives and celebrities in general. Unfortunately for me, the title was pretty accurate and this read exactly like a diary. Many disjointed thoughts. One sentence about his son having a temper tantrum transitions to a night out with John Mayer turns into an ice machine debacle. I did really appreciate Andy’s honesty here about parenthood, his lifestyle, etc. If you like celebrity tea and bravo, this one’s for you. I might recommend doing it on audio though.
None of This Is True by Lisa Jewell

I’m really really stuck between a 4 and a 5 here because IMO this is Lisa Jewell’s BEST! Wow at no point did I guess where this was going. I loved the podcast and Netflix show elements and I love how we were kept guessing and questioning right up until the very end. I also loved the commentary on feminism in a thriller. Lisa is also a queen of writing unlikable main characters, I mean Josie, girl, wtf. Do not miss this latest book from the queen of thrillers herself! Out this August 2023.

Special thanks to Simon & Schuster and Lisa Jewell for my physical and e-ARCs!
