I wanted to love this book. I've loved unicorns and fantasy books as long as I can remember. I however just really struggled with the seemingly vague plot points at times that just didn't have the depth my brain desired. It's beautifully written and I would still recommend it to others but I had to let go of my desire to connect the dots and get answers that weren't there. It left me with a sense I was missing something or skipped a paragraph at times but that something just wasn't there. Overall still a solid book especially once I let go of my desire to understand and just accept the vagueness.

Solid book with decent character development and plot. It doesn't suck you in the way some books do and there's not a lot of action but it is definitely a cozy little fantasy novel. Low risk low anxiety little book that is a breath of fresh air but not overly exciting or unexpected.

Took awhile to get rolling (about 200 pages) but glad I stuck it out. Solid adventure/pirate book with fun plot twists smd characters. Overall just an enjoyable read.
Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore

Probably closer to 4.5 and mostly because it was honestly just longer than it had to be. There's a lot of build up for a fairly predictable outcome. It's well written and the l character development is great. It's what it's promised to be which is basically Bitterblue rebuilding her kingdom from Leck's terror while giving some more background to the darkness of his history. It's a solid book but probably drawn out 100 pages more than it should be.

4.5 honestly. For a juvenile fiction this book was just solid. Good characters and interesting plot. Easy to read and connect with. Just an enjoyable book.
