Was lucky to get a proof of this book from the publisher. This was a pleasant and mysterious read. I loved combining forbidden magic with the threat of the Spanish Inquisition. Historical with a touch of fantasy. This was ann enjoyable book and a change from what Bardugo typically writes.

This was clunky. It took two long for the alternating stories to begin to overlap and connect. The characters felt lifeless. The book feels like it's written in a very matter of fact manner and it made it impossible to actually form any emotional connection with any of the characters.
