When I went into this book, I only had a brief understanding of what it was really about and had purchased it around the time of the movie release. I'd heard good things, but I was a bit intimidated to read it because of the length. Now, I'm so glad that I did. This has easily become one of my favorite books that I've ever read, which I'm definitely surprised about.

I think that if the premise seems interesting to you, then you should give this book a read. There were a lot of long paragraphs of detail, but if you wanted, you could easily skim those parts without missing anything important. The book wasn't extremely fast paced, but I found it seemed a lot shorter than I'd originally anticipated.

I loved the characters as well, and found Theo to be a likable narrator. While he failed to make the best decisions at some points, he saw the world for what it was and still hoped to make the most of his life in the midst of dealing with his personal struggles. There was so much to like about this book, and when I finished, I was surprised about how sad I was to be done. I will really miss these characters, especially Boris and Theo.

Originally, this was my least favorite book of the series, but after re-reading it for the first time since I was a kid, I'm not even really sure what I didn't like about it. I love these books and characters so much!

Such a fun read! This book had romance, drama, mystery and was very fast-paced. The characters were likable and the story was very reminiscent of the Netflix teen-focused shows that have been popular recently, both things I love. There are points in the book where it feels extremely YA and you can tell it's dated by a few years, but still very entertaining! Would definitely recommend if you enjoy any of those things, very strong tropes, and a plot that will keep you interested.

I actually really enjoyed this story but am giving it 3.5/5 stars solely because it was left unfinished, which feels a bit unfair. I wish Fitzgerald could have had the chance to complete this novel, it’s a great glimpse into the era they were living in. I’ve always been fascinated by this age of Hollywood. My edition also had a lot of additional pages, so was interesting to read his notes at the end and see what all he had planned for the rest of the novel.
