DNF 60% in. This book was already just an absolute shit show. But then HOME BOY WAS TOTALLY FINE BONING HIS COUSIN?!?!?! The author drops that their cousins, tries to throw in a sex scene and then clarifies they aren’t actually related after the MMC is like well we should probs use protection cuse we don’t want to procreate. LIKE WHAT. Idc that they ended up not being related. The second that bomb dropped I wanted to bleach my brain. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Jail.
I’m never trusting booktok again.

*upon re-read. Still amazing but my hatred for 3rd person books has grown over the years so boo for that. Keeping my original rating of 5 stars since that was my first rating.
I am honestly struggling to put this book it to words. It’s the type of book that will make you feel 1000 things at once and nothing I can say will do it justice, but I’m going to try.
The first female president, mixed first kids, LGBTQ representation, a prince of England and the First Son. It’s hard to find books that make you actually laugh out loud and this had me laughing often. At times I was crying happy and sad tears and other times I could not stop smiling. All the cultural/political references were so spot on and I absolutely loved in. It has everyone’s favorite tropes, enemies to lovers, found family, forbidden love, overcoming odds, ugh everything.
The LGBTQ representation was amazing. Alex’s inner monologue is so well written and him realizing his true sexual identity was *chefs kiss*. It was like being in the beautiful bubble of a world with accepting parents, supportive siblings, and happy endings. Alex and Henry’s relationship is honestly one of the best ones I’ve ever read. The author writes love, grief, and every other emotion so perfectly. I literally went out and bought sticky tabs so I could mark all my favorite parts of this book. I stayed up until 2am to finish this and it will forever be one of my go to comfort reads. So happy I read this book and I highly recommend it.

3.5-4. It was an easy read that I couldn’t put down once I started. I wish it was longer and had more character development but it was still a good time.
3.5. It was kinda lame but also a fast read and well written. The kind of thrillery plot point was good and made me invested. I did figure out who it was before it was revealed but that wasn’t until like 70% in so it’s not too predictable.
That was criminally short. It was amazing for a novella and I wish it was longer
3.5 Devney Perry writes amazing beginning of books but they always fall flat in the second half. This was still good but it just felt like it went from great back story and build up to full speed ahead. There wasn’t enough time or development for me to fully care about the characters. It needed more build up, tension, and groveling. Millie forgave him so fast it kinda made the story lame. Also, Ford occasionally gave off toxic controlling vibes. Not enough for me to dislike him, but enough for me not to love him.
