4.5. The world building was amazing and so easy to follow for someone who isn’t super big into fantasy. Yes, it was fairly predictable but in the best way. The last 100 pages were 100% 5 stars. However, I wish there was a little more relationship development between the characters during the middle of the book. The big declarations felt unrealistic since they really don’t know each other that well. Still a solid read but it wasn’t as amazing as I had hoped.

4.5 stars just based on vibes. This book is far from perfect, but I was fully in it and had an amazing time while reading this which is really all I want in a book. I have not been this invested in a book since the last SJM book. I spent every free moment I had reading this. At the half way mark I started panicking because I was not ready for it to be already half over. Now, if I were to like really look at this critically it would probably be more of a 4 star book. But like i said, I loved it so 4.5 stars all day.

- Plot: It was a little rough at times and confusing but once I decided to just go with it and not over think it it was fine. But I could not tell you much other than the main premise. the ideas were unique enough, but it was super predictable and there was a decent amount of fluff/filler but I was kind of ok with it. There were a few spots that felt info dumpy, and honestly if I had to take a quiz on these books I would 100% fail. There’s just a lot and I feel like I’d have to re-read to really understand it all.

- Romance: There were moments when it was amazing. But there were other moments where I was like man you guys really are acting like you’re in your early 20’s. Like some of the drama was so dumb but it fit their characters age so I wasn’t mad. But i kept thinking of the quote “Kim, people are dying” from KUWTK. Overall it was a super healthy relationship but communication could be better, although that was kind of the point because of all the secrets and stuff. I wouldn’t put Xadan up there with the top tier book boyfriends but he’s still in the top 20.

- Characters: The core characters were fantastic. Absolutely love all of them and am fully invested in everything about them. However, THERE ARE SO MANY SIDE CHARACTERS. This is my biggest critique because it’s hard to stay in the story when I constantly have no idea who the person is. Also it’s fantasy names so half the time I am pronouncing them wrong in my head and they end up gibberish. Between the people and dragons from the first book, all the professors, all the new characters/dragons/animals, and people from history I was lost in the sauce half the time. A guide needs to be added to the back or notes need to be taken because if someone said the name of any character other than the main ones I would have 0 recollection. I’m banking on the super dedicated book girlies making a character guide by the time the next book is coming out so I have it for the re read.

2.5. The concept was really cool but the plot was a little all over the place

2 stars. This was by far my least fav and I honestly just wanted it to be over. I will read the next 2, but I’m just glad I’ll never have to read that again. Sophie lark is clearly weirdly into c*m and I hated reading those lines.

DNF 50% in. The constant whiplash from these characters being dumb was so frustrating. The entire plot is, I told you to leave but you should have known I didn’t actually mean it so now you’re the villain for not knowing but also I’m going to be mean to you and not talk to you but then also randomly talk to you and kiss you and then we will fight again and not communicate and be mad at each other again. Over and over and over again. Cade was a manipulative asshole.

It’s was ok! There were a few moments that felt like the author was trying too hard to be funny so it was cringy. And over all it was a very positive, drama free book. So I was a little bored.

Nothing actually happened and it was so longggg. And a second book, really? I went through all of that for no answers. -100 stars

Cute holiday romance but honestly the book would have been 1000x better if the authors would have went with the other brother and developed that plot point more.
