This was an intense read. It reminded me a lot of Saw V (one of my favorites). I loved how we discovered each person's backstory and saw how pieces of their lives all connected in the end.

The Lord of the Rings is a big deal in my family. I grew up watching the movies once a month on Sundays, I had all the action figures, my brothers and I would play with my dad's wedding ring and do the music with our mouths and slowly drop it on the floor.

I've always wanted to read the books. They've been sitting on my shelf for a while, but I knew I would struggle because everybody said it was all about the description. But I didn't want to struggle I wanted to love them from the start. Phil Dragash's audiobook made that possible. He did all the voices from the movies, played the music for each scene, and had the background ambient noise. I listened during my drive to and from work each day and actually looked forward to sitting in traffic because it meant I got to listen more.

There is a lot of description, and sometimes my mind would wander and I would come back and it was still going which was nice because then I knew I didn't miss out on too much. I expected more action like in the movies, but this book is not action. I think we only see fighting in the Mines of Moria and it's pretty short. This book is all about the characters and their banter, their hope, their sacrifice, and their love for one another. 5/5. 10/10. Can't wait to listen to the rest of the series.
