“I just…have this pretty intense need to make sure everyone knows you’re very fucking important. Okay? Could you kindly just go along with it?”

This was fun and way better than I thought it would be. Insta-love to the max (I sometimes enjoy sue me). I cringed in some parts but actually laughed in others. Tessa does banter well. The golf thing was boring to me but it caused close proximity and interesting situations for their characters which is why I think this worked. This was super smutty and even though some of it wasn't my fav, it was definitely hot.
TW mention of a "bubble butt"

Tessa Bailey really does the grumpy sunshine trope well and made golf fun for a little bit, proof she can make any romance work with her quick prose and snappy dialogue.

Diabetes representation and explicit sexual content !

THIS IS A KU GEM! This is everything you could want tension, humor (that actually works), quests, magic, a villain who is secretly a cinnamon role love interest with sunshine barbie who loves the world, interesting world building, enemies to lovers, possessive, magical creatures, slow slow slow burn that burns so good, forced proximity and much more. JUST READ IT! Damien is the son of a demon and Amma is assumed to be a thief when they meet under magical and thieving circumstances. They go on a dangerous journey through their realm while Amma wears down Damien and his grumpiness, he starts to question.... is he really evil. Along with his grouchy companion Kaz, an imp they meet many obstacles and the secrets between them are palpable and destructive. Throne in the Dark is a romantic slow burn adventure between lovable characters. This is a trilogy and self published (and it actually funnier than many traditional published books I have read). This book is a lot of world building and bonding on their adventures. DAMIEN AND AMMA ARE SO CUTE!

“Now.” She lowered her voice again, and his eyes snapped up to hers as if she had some command over him. “I did a favor for you, so repay me. Where is the…sanctum of dark, evil stuff?”

this Damien Mal-whatever-thorn, claimed to be one of the most feared and powerful beings in and out of the realm. And he was, what, a glum and self-absorbed twenty-something, living up in the Infernal Mountains and prowling the dirty streets of Aszath Koth to heal wounded kittens?

Narrowing his eyes, something flashed in them, a deep bewilderment from their stunningly violet color.

But I am so happy that the thing you believe in is happening according to your perception.

though it mattered a little less when she was traveling with someone so openly homicidal toward anyone who dared touch her.

“Hobby?”
“Spilling the blood of my enemies.”

“This woman is mine. Do not even think of touching her again. Return to your home. Remain there.”

Amma frowned. “Is this one of those times when you’re exaggerating to seem scary, or do you really mean it?”

“Good. And since you have chosen to press yourself against the most frightening thing in this forest, you are either very brave,” he said with a playful lilt and then dropped his voice to a heady rumble, “or you are already in the worst possible danger you could be.”

“I know you’ve likely become accustomed to this, Amma, but I find it ridiculous. Is it too much to ask to be treated like a threat?"

Why kill him when you could just cut off his favorite parts and make him wish he were dead?” Then he frowned—perhaps it wasn’t wise to put those kinds of ideas into her head.

Damien gave her a look, one he feared was more adoring than he would have liked to let on.

“You do want me to untie you, don’t you?” Amma swallowed, hesitating.
“I see. Tighter next time, then,” he whispered

Her eyes flashed then, narrowing. “How pretty?”
“I’ve met prettier since,” he said carefully.

“Well, yeah, duh, it makes you mysterious and scary, but good scary, ya know? Makes you wonder, like, how’d he get that? And what’s he gonna do to me once he gets me tied up?"

“I want to kiss you endlessly, Amma, and never stop.”

“She has been deceiving you…and you will have to kill her eventually…but maybe the harlot doesn’t deserve to die here…exactly.” (kaz LMFAO)

You can’t just pretend to take me and run away—you have to actually take me when you escape.” Damien took in a deep breath through a clenched jaw. “It would be my pleasure.”

“Oh, right.” He grabbed her much more tightly then, dropping his voice. “Ready to go, my little prisoner?” Amma almost giggled, tingling under his grip

“Careful talking like that, or I’ll think you really are mine for the taking.”

I fell in love with Wes & Margaret as individual characters and together. Allison Saft's prose is poetic and is saturated with mystical imagery.
The was uniquely beautiful and mysterious. If you like A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid, I am certain this will hit in a similar way. I love grumpy sunshine when the boy is sunshine. They are just perfect to me. Creatures with glowing eyes in the dark, alchemy, trauma, lonely seaside manor and prejudice are some main points in the story. An overall beautiful tale of finding the people who love you as you truly are and believe in your future.

“When she looks like this, flushed and hazy and haloed by the moon, he truly can believe God exists, and her name is Margaret Welty.” '

“In the dim porchlight, she looks like something out of a poem he read in school before he dropped out.”

“How many times will she watch someone leave this place and never look back, while she is left here like a ghost to haunt it?”

“Weston, with his foppish hair and calculating smile

“If he can’t grieve his father or his impossible dreams without hurting his family or himself, what other choice does he have but to keep things light? To dazzle people so they can’t look for the cracks? He’s survived this long by letting everyone believe he’s selfish and shallow. It’s better that way. No one knows how to hurt you if you always play the fool.”

“Love is not the sharp-edged thing she's always believed it to be. It's not like the sea, liable to slip through her fingers if she holds on too tight. It's not a currency, something to be earned or denied or bartered for. Love can be steadfast. It can be certain and safe, or as wild as an open flame.”

“But if lust is so perverse, why would God make girls”

“There are punishments far worse than being struck. To be forsaken and unloved - that is the worst fate of all.”

Reginald was the best character. I am so sorry but her trash art and his
accidental fruit summoning.... WHAT???
Frederick was adorkable but like would I ever in a million years be attracted to his character? NO. I enjoyed the funnies most of the time but generally the humor did not hit with me. It's like a rom-com meets a bit of outdated humor, like you can definitely tell the author is trying really hard to put internet references in and it feels weird. I wish books would stop mentioned pop culture but maybe that's a me thing. Overall I had a fun giggle time and I will read Reginald's book 1000%

“also need to borrow your little plastic money card thing one last time.”

“Everything I have heard about the internet makes it sound like a cancer upon the modern world. I am not certain I want it.”

“He might be an undead creature of the night - but as undead creatures of the night went, he was a marshmallow.”

“Over my dead body.”
“That’s easy enough to arrange,”

“By the time you knew what I really was, I wanted you to think I was impressive. Not just some clueless accidental kumquat conjurer.”
LOL
