Check & Mate by Ali Hazelwood

If she writes it, I’m gonna read it.
Ali Hazelwood is one of my ALL TIME FAVE contemporary romance authors.
AH’s writing is so beautifully done, it is easily consumed whilst also maintaining that higher level of intelligence through the subject matter so my brain is still engaged throughout.
Even though this is described as a YA, it does not read like one. Yes there is off page sëx, but the TENSION and chemistry of the two MCs? It reads like much older adult romance books I’ve read.
Nolan is a wonderful MMC and I kinda wish we got some of his POV to be honest however Malory was so well done it doesn’t matter. She is written realistic to the 18 year old experience that it just makes so much sense!!
I really enjoyed this book, it was such a fun read.

Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

I am fully expecting ruthless vows to tear my heart out after that ending, holy smokes.
In the interest of full transparency, the first 40-50% of this book I was convinced the hype was overselling it and it was going to be a 3/3.5⭐️ read. The writing was lyrical, poetically beautiful; however the story was a little lacklustre and the world building minimal.
By the end I was in tears multiple times, I appreciated the lighter work on the world building and the plot has me GASPING. Somehow, Rebecca has written a more beautiful love story with more subtlety than any other love story I’ve read the past year. It unfolds so sweetly and with purpose without feeling rushed or forced at all.
I’m very grateful to past Sam for choosing to hold off on reading Divine Rivals until the release of RV because I’m very glad to be able to immediately begin book 2!

Heartbreakingly good.
I’m surprised to see reviews where people are saying they didn’t feel like this lived up to the hype of book 1… this book was EVERYTHING for me!
There was definitely less romance than the first book however I felt the angstiness of WHY really gave me something that was missing in the first 50% of book one. It felt meaty and just… I greatly enjoyed it.
Roman & Iris will love rent free in my head for the next… ever.
I’m still shattered over that inclusion at the ending, IYKYK.
One of my favourite reads. Hands down.
